3rd Gen Back At the Track After a year.....

Welp, Last year i took my stock n/a 5-speed maxima with a wai to the track and made my first ever pass on a drag strip.... I ran a 16.8 at 82.34 mph.... I only got to run 1 pass that night so that was my pb...... a little dissapointing if you ask me. So i started tinkering and buying some stuff for it.... Over the past year ive put on a used (approx 60k miles) tranny from a local junkyard that cost $450 because i think my only isb went out .... i couldnt put it into 1st or 2nd thus burining my old clutch so i put in a new clutch from Nap...i put on a Unorthodox Underdrive pulley, Warpspeed Y-pipe + Catback, and i lowerd it on Koni Adjustable Shocks and Intrax Springs... So Anyways i headed back to the track after a year of messing around with it and i got my new pb 15.8 at 87 mph....I was running on my 18" wheels and lowprofile tires last year but this year i used my stock sawblades with stock tires about 25% tread left at about 22 psi... I am content at 15.8 for a basically stock 3rd gen with only a few hundred invested in a full second increase in 1/4 mile time....Well anyways i tried posting my timeslip but the picture came out to big and blurry.....

Can you post the time slip data? If you are trapping 87mph in the 1/4, its possible to run a 14.9x ET if you were to get a 60' around 1.8x to 1.9x.

Yeah your going to need slicks to bring your 60' down. Nice times for a VG, my mom has one in her 02 quest vg33e and its annoying slow so maybe a high flow exhaust? Its surprising how it made your car 1 second faster. How did you launch the car?

Hey thats good for a 18 year old car, with a old VG motor. My 99 VQ with Stillen intake ran a 15.3. So a 15.8 out of a heavier, and albeit lower powered motor is a good time!

just practise your launch and you'll lower the 60'... im not gonna amp you head up on no 14.9's but i can definately say you could possibly pull low 15's

Yeah even on crappy tires a 2.2 or 2.1 60' should be do-able..that would put you much closer to 14's land

lol thanks guys...I would have to agree that slicks is my best bet on getting into the low 15's but honestly im not too worried about it anymore.. Im really happy that i got a 160hp vg 4-door maxima to go 15.8 but i am going to take it back to the track next month and try and improve on my 60ft time, I was launching at around 3k rpms because any higher and it would spin otu of the hole.... my PB run was my first run that night and my car was already warm from the drive to the track and when i launched it rolled out of the hole nicely but it selt like the clutch slipped in every gear but anyhow i try to launch so that i dont bog and so that i dont spin... also since last time ive made a short ram intake to replace my longer wai so maybe ill see another 10th or so right there but ill keep you all posted ..

Hey guys, welp i mentioned before that i was going to take the max back out to the track and see if i could improve on my times.... since last time all i have done is made my longer wai into a short ram intake with a cool air duct running from behind the fog light up behind the headlight into my enginebay toward my filter..... the temp for my first 4 runs was around 70-75 and i ran 3 16.0's and 1 15.9.....after about an hour of waiting because somebody hit the wall and they had to clean it all up, the temp went down to about 65 and i got my pb here are the #'s

R/T .007 personal best also
60' 2.285
330 6.533
1/8 10.069
MPH 69.17
1000 13.135
1.4 15.724!!!

That is a good time, it can be better with a few tricks. Things like using a bag of ice to keep the im cool, running a manual fan switch to keep coolant in 170-185*F, using spring blockers to reduce weight xfer. These things came be done for cheAp and will drop ur et by up to 0.5 sec. I believe ur car has the ability to run 14.8-14.9 the way it is with these tricks and some slicks. I ran a 14.5@90mph in my se-r with 1.90 60ft on slicks. You just have to keep the engine temp below 190*F so it won't power from heat soak and get ur car to hook.
