Don't worry man you'll hit your times when its cooler out.

mikehawk 09-11-2012 06:17 PM

You should get that primary o2 sensor fixed. I lost about 2mph when mine weren't working.

Yeah, it's hard to post up great times in higher elevation. I use to race a lot in Las Vegas, which was over 2000' elevation. And not to mention the insanely hot Vegas temps!

If you were racing in 90 degree weather, according to my quick math, you will shave about 4 tenths of a second just by racing in 60 degree weather instead (same humidity, barometric pressure, track elevation, 60 foot time, etc).

Also, I didn't know that raceway was that high in elevation. Where did you find that information? I was thinking it was about 500 feet or so.

And I also see a lot of room for improvement on your 60 foot times. So that's good. Expect to see some much better times on your next visit since you'll have cooler weather, a better 60', and some better tuning along with a LRMAF. :D I see 13s in your near future!

Whoa good catch...elevation was only 500', not sure where the other figure came in.

Definitely need to work on the 60' though. This track doesn't do any prep, other than mopping up any excess water from the box that might be at the starting line. Ugh

I want to hit up Baytown and see what I'd run out there. But I was expecting at least 13.9999 when I went this past time. We are going again, same track in Crandall, on Oct 20th. Should be cooler at least.

Yeah, if you can launch a little nicer and get a 2.15 60 foot, your ET will drop by 3-4 tenths! Even on a bad night with horrible tires and track prep, you can still squeeze a 2.2x 60' sometimes. For every tenth you shave in the 60 foot due to traction, you will shave 2 tenths in the 1/4.

And by racing in 75 degree weather instead of 90, you will shave 1.5-2 tenths in the 1/4.

So, I believe you can do a 2.22 60' and race in some 75 degree weather and you'll see 14.0-14.1s pretty easily without doing any other modifications to your car.

And I'm thinking the other elevation figure you originally mentioned may have been your Density Altitude, which was in the correct ballpark. I am guessing your DA was around 2300-2800' that particular day you raced.

Ah, that makes sense.

Thank you for your 12sec wisdom! ;)

About to be 11sec wisdom soon! :D

Well... hopefully. I need to get my new high stall 245mm torque converter prototype from Edge Racing installed and tested. I just finished adding a LRMAF and adding tons of fuel with the UTEC to compensate. I'm sure I'm putting down more HP, but I can't tell since it just smokes the tires up until 60mph. I have to put slicks on it and run it at the track or do some dyno runs to find out for sure.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you getting out on the track. I'll keep a lookout for any updates you have.

Jesus! LOL
I saw your thread where you mentioned getting the higher stall 245.
You'll definitely have to tape it...sucks you aren't hitting up tracks in TX, would be nice to see your 3rd gen run in person.

I'll update my thread after the 20th next month. We have a lot of people going out there. Bringing my camcorder as well to get some better vids too.

MrEous 10-20-2012 10:45 PM

Thread update...Time improved with a lower trap. lol :gotme:

Nice launch and 1/8. We did have that off and on strong headwind..... should be about 20mph gain from 1/8 to end. So 99mph ish. Wind could have slowed up up??

I definitely think so regarding the wind. Last time we went, I was trapping 99mph but at 14.4...

I'm going back out next month, either alone or with all y'all again. But I'll have the UTEC (& wideband) in by then and focus on the tuning.

I'm down depending on what weekend and will have the data logging for the wideband.

nice

MrEous 03-06-2013 11:03 AM

Thanks...looking forward to going again.

Told Aackshun to set up a Houston track date for Baytown. Need to finish installing mods that have been sitting and the 4" that's coming soon. ;)

i miss my 03 that video makes me sad

7speed 03-07-2013 06:48 PM

Congrats . Plus you hit it a few times so its official. Yeah we need to hit Houston 1 day. But damn if its the track in Baytown it gets packed. Worse then Ennis back in the day.

MrEous 03-07-2013 06:54 PM

Yeah I think I have three slips with 13.8 and two others with 13.9...then some 14.0s and that one granny-shiftin, not double-clutchin like I should've 16.1.

Grand_hustle17 03-07-2013 07:07 PM

numbers are significantly lower than they should be... idk whats up with the altitude down there but ive gotten 13.7 with less mod, and "AUTO".....

MrEous 03-07-2013 07:14 PM

It looks like a lot of people run really good times at your track. What's the name of it? Not that I'd ever drive all the way up there to race, just curiuos.

I'm utilizing a utec Z tune with SSIM...without proper tuning I'm running really rich, which isn't helping. Altitude is around 500ft at this track and I'm around 260 current weight.

Also, Nishfish isn't far behind in mods and runs 14.4 in his auto at the same track. So maybe the track is an issue. Maybe you were lucky.

Grand_hustle17 03-08-2013 03:41 PM

we have 3 tracks here that folks use... Maryland International Raceway (host of maxus 09 day 2) one of the best drag strips in the country, Capital Raceway, Cecil Raceway.... at one point I thought cecil was a fast track (never ran there) but weve had recent events where folks have been getting even worse times

ABIGBRAIN 03-08-2013 09:58 PM

Gotta love the short downhill burnout area at Cecil... real short
:-) a buddy of mine ran the 8.50 index class @ over 163 mph. I've had my dad's Chevelle there a few times for Bracket Finals. I personally prefer Maple Grove or New England Dragway.

Andy

Grand_hustle17 03-09-2013 05:51 AM

Not really a fan of cecil either but i see ppl tend to think our tracks are faster or more special of some sort... Same track as just about all tracks in the country

Congrats on 13s!

Most tracks are about the same. Most are level or at least close to it. But the weather and elevation has a lot to do with the time you'll get on any given track. MIR is one of the fastest tracks in the nation for a regular naturally aspirated street car. It's in a GREAT location that's at sea level and capable of getting some cold temps with high atmospheric pressure. Plus, it's a great smooth racing surface that's capable of some really sticky days.

Here locally in Eastern NC, we have Kinston Drag Strip and Coastal Plains Dragway. Comparing identical 60 foots and air density altitudes in both locations, for some reason Coastal Plains is 1 tenth faster every time. But I still love Kinston since it's close and perfect for testing since the wait in the lanes on a TnT day are usually about 1-5 minutes on average! Plus the staff there is really nice.

And I also have done a lot of racing in Las Vegas (over 2000ft elevation). With the air density being equal to tracks on the east coast, Vegas was still at least 2 tenths slow. It's a GREAT facility, one of the best in the country! The only thing I can think of is that the track elevation at the end of the 1/4 mile is 11ft higher than the starting line.

And I've raced a lot in Palm Beach International Raceway in South FL. The same thing happened there. With the air density being equal, it was still 1-2 tenths slower than the tracks in Eastern NC.

But I have yet to find a track that was more than 2 tenths slow after comparing equal air density altitude equivalents.

MrEous 03-09-2013 07:56 AM

^^ See that's why I want to go to Baytown in Houston. Sea level track and usually good weather/barometric pressure.

I totally agree though that usually tracks are the same. However the tracks near me are differently prepped too. Crandall (closest) doesn't normally do prep during TnT days but Ennis (about an hour out) does awesome prep and sprays VHT every so often, so you usually get better times. Only bad thing is the better tracks are usually a lot busier.

Aackshun is supposed to be getting a track day together, but I think he's waiting till he gets his durty-five (I35) swapped with 6spd and some mods to try and match me.
:wall: We'll seeeeeee
