86 Max A.S.C.D. and electric draw
 

Could any please let me know what the A.S.C.D. is in my 1986 Nissan Maxima. Also I have noticed that I get 10 AMP discharge exactly 2 hours after the car sits idle. This discharge will kill that battery in a day if the car is not run. Any Ideas? I own a 1986 Nissan Maxima SE 5 Speed.

The ASCD is the cruise control computer.

As for the discharge, you probably have a short somewhere. That's kind of hard to diagnose since you pretty much have to start testing stuff to see what is drawing the current.

Thanks for the reply. I made an error on the discharge. It is a 10V discharge ocurring after the car is shut off. Once the charge is present I have removed all of the fuses and it still draws. This should limit my search to items that have only a direct connect to the battery? However, I notice that if I start the car and shut it off and disconnect the Time control unit by the footwell, the draw stays on immediately. All of the items controlled by the time control unit are off of ACC though, but since the draw seems to run off a timer somewhere, I figured I would start there.

It seems weird that by disconnecting the TCU the draw would be immediately on.
Any Ideas?

Okay check this out..... you have a 5 spd, just like mines......
how long do you run your car? the reason why I ask, because there is a small motor that assist engine cooling after you shut your car down. It takes about 5 minuets for it to kick in. You can disconnect it and will cause no problems. Now for the bad news.....

If your car battery is dead (after a 10 amp draw, right? It could be that motor I just told you about drawing the amps), the you have a problem with your altenator. It is not that bad at first because you may not use everything in your car at one time, but your altenator is "trickle charging " your battery and needs to be replaced!
It trickles because a diode in your altenator has blown and you are not getting that full charge to your battery. Check you voltage guage to see how low your voltage is. If you can start your car, look at the gauge. If it reads at 12 volts and a little below, you're trickle charging. Like I said before, you might be able to get by until you buy another altenator, but if you have a system, you need to get another altenator a.s.a.p.!! I have had about 1,150 watt amplifier system with a 1 micro farad capacitor backing up those amps and I would lose all battery power before I shut down my engine!!! I replaced both altenator and battery and plugged back in my accessory cooling fan...... :D
