Mods for 2nd gen Maximas
Intake:
-K&N Panel drop in filter
-You can make a custom CAI(Cold Air Intake) out of pcv piping or from aluminum or plastic drier hose with a cone filter on the end. You can also take out the Factory Air box and get a Nissan Adapter for maximas and just add a cone filter to it.
90 and up Stanza 60mm throttle body
For better flow on the intake side you can add a 60mm throttlebody from a 90 and up Stanza. Note this would require you to port out the intake collector to get the same diameter as the throttlebody for the best use.
Exhaust:
To help release and excuse some of that extra air you're going to need to open up the exhaust side. Your options.
2.5" Catback setup to open up the back end with your choice of a performance muffler. Pacesetter has a catback set up for our applications or you can just custom make yours at a muffler/exhaust shop.
A Hi Flo Cat
And if you really wanted to see some gains you could take out the factory Y pipe or downpipe remove the precat section and replace it with a straight through pipe. Most likely for racing applications only.
Suspension:
Springs
Suspension Techniques Lowering springs: lowers 1.5 inches on all fours for 86-88 maximas
Intrax lowering springs: Lowers front 1.8" Rear 1.6" for 86-88 Maximas.
And if you are lucky to find them Eibach had some for our applications which lowered the car 1" all around
Struts
KYB has the KYB GR2s available for our cars to help tighten the suspension
Tokico also has a set that help tighten up the turns as well
FSTB(Front strut tower brace)
Currently there arent any out for our cars. You can find a 93-97 Nissan Altima front strut tower brace and modify the brackets on the ends to fit our strut towers.
RSB(Rear Sway Bar)
ADDCO has a sway bar for our applications which increase the diameter to a respectable amount to help control the rear end in hard cornering
Camber adjustments can be done with Intrax's Camber kit for 86-88 maximas they are rarely needed but if so they are available for the front and rear. The front part number is 99.9.007, adjustment is 1.75 +/-, list is $32.00 per side. The rear camber part number is 99.9.035, adjustment is -2.0-+2.75, list is $76.00 per
side. These prices may differ in time. Website www.intraxsuspension.com
Wheels:
Any wheels that have a 4x114.3 should fit the 86-88 Maximas I believe safe offset is between 40-45
Any year except the 2002 Altima rims will fit our cars
The Se-r Spec V 17" five spoke wheels will fit our car as well.
Other Mods:
Unorthodox Racing underdrive pulley to free up some hp from the engine.
Cams can be had from ISKY. ISKY 262 cams are a mild grind which give good mid to high rpm hp
Transmission cooler
Hayden or b&m are pretty well known tranny cooler companies.
Transmission coolers help reduce heat and prolong tranny life. They all come in different sizes. The most common used is the Hayden 404 size(I have this one). Its good for big RV's, diesel engine trucks, Hualing big boats etc so you know they will be good for our cars. There is also a smaller 403 model that works good as well. Tranny coolers can range from uses on compact cars up to huge RVs some even have electrical fans to help increase cooling. Tranny coolers can be found at any Pepboys, Advanced Auto Parts stores, and you might want to check Autozone too. They range anywhere from (guestimate)30.00 on up. And only take about 30-45 minutes to install. This upgrade could possibly prevent you from spending close to 2k for a new transmission.
Brakes
Stainless Steel Braided brake lines are available for the 2nd gens 87-88. For better Braking and shorter braking distance. Its avail. through Stillen at Stillen.com for 62.00

Turning your N/A vg30e into a vg30et
Here are two links to successfully turboing the vg30e
One from z31.com
http://www.z31.com/nfaq/faqview.php?ParentID=7
And heres the other site
http://home.pacbell.net/ehouts/z/swap/
Even though these swaps are done on Zs. They carried the same engine our cars have so its all the same thing.

One note about the TB upgrade, in order to really benefit from that mod, you have to match port the intake collector inlet to 60mm too. That can be done by removing collector (you don't have to remove the lower intake), and either machine it yourself, or take it to a machine shop.

Changing your dashlights to a different color
This dashlight mod was done in the color red but can be done in other colors of your choice.
Well guys, I did it and now have cool red dashlights. The only difficult part was the instrument cluster, other than that it was easy. Here's a rundown of how I did it.
Shifter, ashtray and lighter - These simply have the bulb filters ( or condoms ). I couldn't find red bulbs in that size so they got painted with transparent red nailpolish.
Heater controls - The back of the panel is painted green. Simply snap the translucent peice out and replace it with one from an 87-88 Pathfinder. They are exactly the same, but the Pathfinder has orange illumination. There is a diffuser on the back of it, simply peel it off to let a bit more light through. Paint the bulb red and you're set.
Instrument cluster - Here's the tricky part. I tried changing the bulbs for red ones, 194's are readily available in many colors. It worked, but was pinkish and dim. If any of you have had it apart, or changed a bulb, there are little plastic domes where the bulbs go. They are sort of a bluish green. So I dismantled the cluster, note the position of the needles and removed them. They come off fairly easy. Next I pulled the gauge faces and then I could remove the offending plastic domes. Reassemble everything, check the guage operation, and install three red 194 bulbs and paint the two small ones.
Voila! Red dashlights. It looks so much better than the irritating green. I'll try to get a decent pic for you guys this evening of the new look. I think the next project will be changing the keyless entry illumination to something more appealing.

I cannot find the indiglo dash mod, still searching. Do the tail lights use more power than the factory bulbs? I ran into an issue where I hooked up a cd player ( the radio was trash) and now my tail lights and dash fuse blows.
I took the amp off and tested and it still blew. I also tried unplugging the radio from the hot power and the fuse still blew.

How can I contact you for the gauges? I figured out the issue, instead of wiring the radio to the harness, I ran new wires and fuses to the battery and grounded the radio to the chassis. Now I need to get a new antenna cause the new cd player doesnt match up to the original antenna plug.

87 maxima advice
ok so i have an 87 maxima with a vg30e. it has 235k on the clock.it runs like new. but i would like to get a blown or rebuilt (doesn't matter cause im gunna build it) vg30e or vg30et. and i would like to know if any other motor swap is applicable

Where can I find the Front Lip that comes stock on all 88 Maxima's. The lower part of the front bumper that sits behind the stock fog lights. Mine ripped in half and I can't find a replacement. Any ideas?
#35
I think i'll go the dealer route but my max is white so probably no carbonfiber. Thanks for the info. I hate to post another question here like this but I don't have rights to start a thread yet(and I agree with that) so I don't have a choice.
I had my power steering pump and rack&pinion replaced last week. Since then the car has been doing weird things in corners, on the highway, at anything above 55mph. When I'm in a corner (right or left doesn't matter) i'll have the wheel turned to go through the corner and the car will pull harder to the right or left depending on the corner and I have to slow down and turn my wheel in the opposite direction to adjust sometimes depending on how fast I'm going it feels like i'm about to lose control of the car altogether. I'm taking it back to the Mechanic today for him to recheck his work but I wanted to see if anyone else has seen this problem. (enagee88SE)

Listen guys I'm new to Maximas, former 240sx owner, and I just bought an 87 wagon. I NEED AFTERMARKET PARTS. Bluebird stuff, coilovers, anything! Help me out please with any fresh leads or info, if you have anything to sell, tell me. I'm ordering wheels today, but other than that, I need to lower it nicely and do some other JDM or euro spec stuff (whichever just want to get rid of the stock USDM appearance) to it. Hit me up at NismoTyler@hotmail.com thanks a million guys.

I would say buy some skyline parts i.e. tranny front differential and maybe 2nd gen front hubs and some fabricating. might as well go with a RB cuz your going to need a different oil pan, maybe
