EAS shock/strut question

Hi all,

Was wondering about the electronically adjustable suspension system. Am I correct in my understanding that they are essentiall a manually selectable 3 stage shock absorber? So when it's on Soft, all you get is soft, no shock sensing or multi-stage absorption, right?

If that is truly the case, that totally sucks. What sucks even more is the idea of ditching the EAS to go with standard shocks/struts. Anyone else done this? If so, what is your take on it???

Thanks.

:-)

Yeah, you have only 3 selectable modes. Essentially you are right about what it does in soft mode. Most people are ditching the EAS because the fact that when the struts go bad, they pretty much are useless in any mode. On top of that, replacement is far too expensive. I'm going to be replacing my struts soon. I have KONI adjustable strut inserts. I currently still have the EAS rear struts, but I have standard in the fronts. I will be also getting ST springs with a 1.5" drop and a RSB.

In case you're concerned about cost, more than performance, KYB shocks are pretty good and reasonably priced. I have 4 of them in my 88 Maxima SE.
You will also have to get the proper tower braces for your shocks, because the mechanical shocks are different on the top portion.
(the autoparts store where my mechanic got the KYB shocks from, had the braces with the shocks as a conversion kit, so we didn't have to search for braces separately.)

Not really.

Not really concerned about the price of the new EAS shocks, just not satisfied with the crappy dampening. I am running the Sensatracs in my 88 Lincoln LSC and I love them!!! With the lowered suspension on the Linc, the handling is great!!! Even a year after having put them in, they are still performing very well and I have driven them hard!!!

Anywhoooo, I will likely be ditching the EAS system as three settings sucks. The 15 stage valving of the Sensatracs works very, very well.

Thanks for the input guys.

Cheers!

You'd know if . .

You'd know if your car had it cause there would be a selector **** on the console which has 'S', 'N' and 'F'.
