Power Transistor

Can the power transistor be weak and cause a sluggish engine?

I recently replaced my coil due to a no start condition, but
never checked the power transistor.

I don't have my FSM at the ready, is there a test for the
transistor?

Is it just like any electronic transistor (like the ones used
in audio amps)?

If so, I can check those pretty easy for leakage with a volt/
ohm meter with a diode check.

Or are the power transistors just good/bad with no in-between?

Thanks!
Scott

Yeah it can. The power transistor I believe is what converts the low voltage power from the battery to a high voltage power that the ignition coil can use. You may want to test it and see what's going on.

Just curious...

When I turn my turn signal on, my volt gauge fluctuates
with the turn signal...

Is this normal?

Thanks!

There will be some fluctuations, but most of the time you won't notice it. You will also get that if you put a really heavy load on the electrical system (everything is on). Normally you won't see it move. To sound of it, you could have a bad battery connection or your voltage regulator maybe going out. If it is, you will need to probably replace/rebuild your alternator since it's built in to the alternator.
