Wagons

ok werid questions so be warned.

when i get a new job i am going to want to go places like expos and stuff and i need to take into consideration that the trips i'll be taking will be long and i mught be buying alot of stuff...thus the need for a wagon. figure i would stick with an 87 and up wagon since i know about them and 86 and below dont quite look right (especially if you already have a 87 sedan)
i'll be ablke to fix/rebulid the engine if need be since i'll have my 87 sedan still and possibly a 78 monte carlo soon (middle-ages maxima) but enough background.

so long hauls with heavy loads, i know VG motors are made for endurance runs when up to spec but what about hauling things...lets say like mabe an arcade cabnet? or umm...lots of computer towers or boxes full of old games?

what about towing a car? (towing would only be for up and down the west coast)

should i double coil/strut convert the back end to handle the load or air bags?

pathfinder or 300Z cams for towing?

i know wagons are so much more harder to find but i like to stick with what i know, the rest of the car is ultimately the same. i want it to haul stuff and to be nice on the inside but i also need the cargo to be out of the elements other wise i would use a truck...and i dont like vans

Wagons are a lot of fun and if you want one get one. However they cannot seriously be considered for carrying "heavy loads". They cannot carry a significant amount of weight above the capacity of the sedan that you presently own. Usually the rear seats let down to allow you more cargo space. I think the last year for Maxima wagons in the U.S. is the 88 model year and you're right, Maxima wagons are hard to find.

Here's an 88 wagon that I just saw on Ebay that you can take a look at.

I don't know what the rear suspension on the 88's are but my 84 which is a rear wheel drive has an axle and coil springs along with the drum brakes.

for the heavy loads i.e. the car incase i buy a new one is just in case type of thing, i dont plan on buying a car too far out of town and unless i got a hell of a deal and its ultra rare i wouldnt be towing it.

the heaviest i see using it for is 400-650lbs....arcade cabnits....i have measured other wagons and this ones a bit taller than others which is what i would need for the cabs i am lookin at other wise it would be boxes of stuff

The wagons max load is 900lbs, so if you weigh 200, that leaves you a 700lb margin! Earl

Arcade games, huh? Right now I am looking for the Street Fighter 3, 3rd Strike unit, or at least all the "guts".

You could always upgrade the rear suspension to take the loads, easy to do.

I have an 85 Wagon, i love it! If you know how to work on any of the 2nd gen's, then any of the 2nd gen wagons would be fine to work on with general knowledge of the 2nd gens.

The wagons are hard to find, but occasionally I see about once a month on the road (not mine!!) They are great for hauling stuff, or large stereo systems!! Thinking about the size of an arcade cab, I don't really think you could fit it in a wagon, even with the seats down, there would'nt be enough room.

(Im gunna build a MAME cab to play arcade games with, one machine, all the games. But im too poor to collect arcade machines.)

Reallly?! I might need part of the body. There is a dent in the rear left fender well on mine, it might be repairable, but I might need a section from one, and some other parts. Where is Commerce City?

I think that it was Commerce City (Sidewinder), but it may have been the Pull-A-Part in Aurora. Actually, there may actually be one in both. I'm not 100% certain. Pull-A-Part might be able to tell you if they do or do not have a wagon. I am almost positive that sidewinder's got one.

Both Champagne (gold). The one in Aurora just showed up. I saw it for the first time last sunday. It had a beautiful pair of brown seats that looked almost brand new. They made me wish I had a brown interior.

As far as I could tell, both bodies are good - the one caveat though - you better hurry. Pull-A-Part turns over tons of cars. You would be lucky if it was there for two weeks. Sidewinder is a little slower, I've seen some cars there for a month or more. I think they only crush 'em if they need the room.

Commerce City is NE Denver are. Aurora (if you don't already know) is SE Denver Metro.

Boone? East of Pueblo?

Thanks for that info, I will have to look into it. First I need to ask my my friend that took an autobody repair class, if the dent is fixable. If it's not, its time to cut spot welds, and then the joy of rewelding the new peice to my car.. I wonder how much they would want for the peice that I need, its the peice right behind the back left door, and the fender flare. (No more attempting FWD Drift for me, I'll stick to RWD Drift. Im just glad im about to get an old dented up Toyota AE86 to practice Drift in, and hopefully drop in an nice poweful SR20DET and S13 transmission)

Maybe if I go to the Maxima Meet in denver on the 23rd, I will check out those junk yards. I know where Aurora is.

Yup, I live in Boone. 20 Miles east of Pueblo. I hate the 40 mile a day commute, it's killing my dad's J30 (which I keep trying to get from him once the engine blows.. there is enough room for a RB26DETT in there...)

Wagons got it goin on, imo. The 1st gens have leaf springs and a solid axle which haul a pretty good load. When I moved accross the country I was sure glad to have it. I just got mine back up and running with a new differential. If it wasn't for all the rust from salty midwest roads I'd be keeping her for another 10 years no problem.

I knew a guy with a wagon back in the day but it met with and unfortunate (and fiery) demise...

I think they're funky but would make a good daily/utilitarian car.

neo_densetsu,

I was at the junkyards on saturday, and sidewainder in commerce city has two 2nd gen wagons. Both that champagne color. One better than the other, one is kinda rusty (it s an 85). The better of the two has some slight body damage on the pass side rear qtr. Kind of like a dent that broke the paint and some rust in the area.

Thought i'd let you know if you had any interest.

Yes, the 81 and 82 had leafs 83 and 84 coils. It is the same body, but the grill and I believe the tail light treatments were different between the 81 82 and 83 and 84, Plus, I believe there was more front seat legroom at least for the driver in the 84 compared to the 81 and the hard bar on the back of the front seats on the 81 was removed starting with the 82 model year

It's amazing how many weird changes/variations there are
on the 810/Max between 81-84. I've never seen two that
had the exact same emblems/colors/h.o.,

Like the H.O.s, some say MAXIMA like mine, others say
DATSUN (te one I want) and still others say NISSAN.

That is so true, lol. It is also ironic, and amusing how similiar the 81-84 Maxima was to the 81-84 Toyota Cressida.

Don't forget the ones that say "Nissan by Datsun". Which is wierd because in reality it was the other way around. My uncle's 84 sedan had that badge.
