http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/1576434985.html

This car is in great shape. We got it from a mechanic who loves diesels and he got it from an old lady. He cleaned, upgraded and checked everything! The engine is really a truck and the car is a tank. Safe - reliable - long lived - and Diesel!
Engine is immaculate! 109,000 original miles. Purrs.

Great milage – 30+ mpg. Could be run on Biodiesel

We would keep it but our children are starting to drive and don't like it (combination of not knowing how to use a clutch and "It's ugly"). I love pulling into gas stations and asking for diesel and then cruising down the highway in this car, but it is time to pass it on.
Asking $3,800 - If interested, Please call Barbara 503-288-1374

Yes, it's a diesel! A 1983 Datsun (Nissan) Maxima turbo Diesel 4 door sedan, not many imported into the US, so this is a rare opportunity. This was the top of the line Datsun in 1983, used to be known as the 810. Sunroof, cruise, power windows/locks, interior in great shape, no rips or tears, etc. This is a 2-owner car, and has been maintained perfectly-- new shocks, struts, brakes, glow plugs, etc.

The motor itself runs amazingly strong and is in good condition. The car has 206k miles

I've had this 1983 diesel Maxima for almost three years. It's been faithful, but the auto transmission is now on its way out. The car barely moves in first gear and reverse; it's still driveable by starting out with gear shifter in 2nd, then shifting to Drive once rpms are high enough. Higher gears are still fine, but transmission needs repair. The car is currently parked and not driven.

260K miles and never any problems with the engine itself. 28 mpg consistent in city, have gotten as much as 38 mpg driving 55 mph on a trip to Eastern Washington (over passes!). Paint original silver, with exception of left front fender and driver's door (due to minor fender bender)--those have been replaced and have new paint. Gray cloth interior, kinda worn and soiled but no rips. Just replaced starter. All electronics work with exception of antenna and voice warning device.

Alternator belt squeals, needs tightening. Fuel pump has had slight leak ever since I've owned it, but leaks less when using biodiesel; and fuel lift pump was installed to assist. Heater fan does not work. I've turned off the ESS (extended storage switch), otherwise dome light comes on unexpectedly and drains battery. Blows dark smoke when under load, I figure the intake manifold needs to be cleaned.

There is a following for this fairly rare type of car: "NissanDiesel: LD & SD series Nissan diesel engines, and the people who love them" http://nissandiesel.dyndns.org/ You can read all about these vehicles and get lots of great information and support through this group.

Contact me with questions. $750 OBO.

i'm really poor right now, so probably an RB20. 25 is going to cost me an extra $1000 that I don't have right now lol.

This is just for a DD car though. I have another car with an SR20 that if I sell, could drop an RB26 in the maxima

i would keep the 510 and just drop a RB20 in

yeah that's my plan for the time being

chrome91 02-05-2010 03:00 PM

the RB20 would still give you good power, and its lighter than the RB25 so theres some benefits (IIRC RB20 is 1900ccish, RB25 is 2400ish)

are you doing a SOHC or DOHC RB20?

arsonist63086 02-05-2010 04:38 PM

i always read about ppl doing the rb swap or sr (dont know why ppl will put a low torque 4 banger in a big car like maxima's.. my opinion) wat happen with Nissan v8's those things are sick and are very cheep to buy and rev up to 6500 rpm stock... just wondering

Sunline racing i think theyre called in Japan took a R32 GTS-T Skyline and took out the original inline 6 and put a SR20DET, went from 440ish horsepower to like 475hp and the car lost a ton of weight, they said it felt a whole lot lighter and it was faster

i still personally would take a inline 6 though

yeah my philosophy is stay nissan, and keep the same number of cylinders (or go up) never go down lol

only inline6 or nissan v8 in a 240z/maxima/whatever comes with an inline6 lol

my dream would be to have a 240z with a VK56 with a supercharger on it, 6spd

theres actually a 240z by me i'm asking the guy if he will sell, its parked underground and hasnt been registered since 02 or 03. white, 5spd, tiny patch of rust on the front bumper and a bit on the drivers door but its clean. i think something might be up with it because theres please do not tow, sorry written on the dust in it. everyone has to move their car when they clean the parking and i think his engine might be blown and he cant move it hence he wrote that. only thing i dont like is its LHD but the RHD JDM ones go for $6000+ because theyre restored

arsonist63086 02-06-2010 06:08 PM

ok fyi i think this post is thread is turning into v8 swaps.... lol (hijack or make new thread)

as for the rhd drive cars wtf is the big deal with ppl wanting them when they are basically the same **** as the lhd cars? i would understand ppl getting rhd cars that we dont get in the usdm market but when its just the same model with the only diff is where the driver seats i find it crap.. Wat the japs look for lhd cars in the market? just my opinion.......

chrome91 02-06-2010 07:03 PM

RHD looks cool, but for me its more than that because i just prefer sitting on the right and driving stick i prefer shifting with my left hand (even being right handed)

i think its just what you're used to. I'm right handed and don't like driving RHD but probably just since i'm used to driving LHD

i think its just that most people prefer to shift into higher gears away from them, LHD that works but RHD youre shifting up towards you which some dont like

yeah, ebay has some too but theyre expensive. the guy with the Nissan junkyard here is extremely nice, he doesnt mind helping you and stuff. he has new stuff too like 350z, when i go for some 3rd gen stuff i might see if he has a cheap frame damage only R32 GTR i can take off his hands

they never did make a LD28ET from the factory. One above was a custom setup. Easiest way is 280zxt turbo and exhaust manifold

lww 02-12-2010 09:15 PM

That is the easiest way, but it's still not bolt-on "easy". you have to fabricate an adapter plate for the 280ZXT exhaust manifold since the bolt patterns are different.

1984 Datsun/Nissan Maxima, needs electrical work and brakes. This is the last time Datsun was actually put on a car, this one has a automatic 6 cly engine (L24 E) with 123,000 miles (put on it going back and forth from the store, previous owner was original), it has power windows, AC, over drive, and the interior is ok (it is 26 years old). As I understand it, this is the engine from a 280z back in the day.The body has no dents and as far as I know everything is original. I have driven this car and it is quite powerful. It is currently in my garage (has been for 2 years) and I am not able to take a picture to post. This car runs like a horse! The engine has an inline 6 sohc 5 speed manual, and starts up every time. It's a sedan with power windows and sunroof. Very low miles for an '81at 93,000. Look around and you won't find this model anywhere else. The only things wrong with it, besides the usual wear and tear for such an old car, is the brakes and electrical inside the car need some work. Otherwise it is very dependable.

I understand this is the 2.8 engine / head that 280z owners want, (or put it in any rock crawler / Japanese racer / Jeep and International Scout Ford Bronco!). The engine/parts alone are worth more than the asking price. Serious call 469-233-8020, anytime. Please leave a message if no answer, thanks!

$500 OBO 1984 Maxima station wagon. gas, not diesel. Automatic. I'm not srue if it's front wheel drive or not. If anyone can tell me that based on the photos, I'd appreciate it.

It's ugly. I won't post a picture, because it's too ugly. Really. Trust me on this. And I really do mean best offer. I want it gone. Yesterday would not be too soon.

Too many folks asked for pictures. So, OK, you got it! ;)
And there is a slight exhaust leak. There is an astounding variety of cosmetic problems. Moreover, I can't swear for the mechanical condition of the thing...
But it RUNS! If you can fix things, and if you're not too picky about looks, this might be a good deal for you.

I wish I'd found this place earlier this year! It would have made my search for a 1st Gen Diesel a LOT easier!

Now you guys need to find me one with a 5 speed!

Cheers,
LWW

82maxtx: I don't believe that you are selling your Max so soon. Just a few months ago you were all gun-ho and gonna make it the pride of the 1st Gen forum. What's the deal?

the motor in it pooped out, I let my girl drive it, and the front mainseal blew out of it, and all the oil....... it may have broke a rocker arm and dropped a valve down into the cylinder, or it spun a rod bearing...... I'm not sure, it just started knocking real bad and there wasnt much oil in it.....I haven't taken it apart, but that's what I think happened to it.................................... and she's me EX girlfriend now. I'm selling it now really because:

1. the 1st gen was my daily, and now I need another daily, while on limited funds, so I just need the cash
2. I'm already in the middle of a motor swap into my S11 200sx right now, can't handle 2 motor swaps at the same time.

This is 84 wagon has rear wheel drive, straight rear end with tube shocks,
One thing about Maxima 1981-1984, all parts fits the front part while sedan and wagon, the rear doors and glass are different, all motor parts are 240Z and L16 will also fit except this has 6 pistons, camshaft and crank, radio antenna are in differnt locations. Front seat forward are all same parts, I had to get parts from my 82 to replace things in my 83

I just bought 82Maxtx's car 2 weeks ago. I'm going to race it at LeMons but I'm looking to sell any parts that are good off of it. I made a post on craigslist in houston. If anyone is interested in parts let me know. I just plan on keeping the shell of the car.
