Ignition Control Modules Failing
I have had several ICMs fail in a short time and trying to find out if there is a cause for this other than low quality parts. The last part was an original equipment supplier part (OES) with the Nissan part number which failed 750 miles/1 year. I am assuming this part was good quality. The ground for the ICM , ign coil and mounting are are good . I am running a new Standard Motor Ign Coil which meets spec. Is there anything else to check?

any excessive heat in the area?

No extra heat. I am going through the complete ICM circuit to check for shorts and good ground. From what I read this can be one cause of the problem due to wire chafing (short) or corrosion (ground).

upgrade the icm with a 3rd gen unit

What does car act like when it goes out?

I had them fail two ways. Poor performance and fuel mileage, would throw a code for primary ignition, but still would run. The other way the motor would just die with no start/spark after installing. Turns out the Standard Motor ICMs I was using are defective or under-designed. I installed an Airtex ICM, who was the OEM for Nissan about 2 years ago. FYI - The Airtex rep said the part status is "Possible to be Discontinued".
