87 TCM for automatic

Hi folks, my 87 automatic was acting up, clunky when downshifting or driving a low speed. A mechanic told me, internal parts on the tranny were worn out due to its age and eventually will give in. I bought a used transmission with low (55K) miles and is doing the same.

Question: could it be a bad TCM? Where is this located?
Anyone has one for sale?

Thanks
