Rear End Super Stiff - 88 Maxima Wagon

So my rear end finally went stiff on me. Am I correct in assuming my strut inserts are shot? It feels as if I'm driving one of those low rider bouncy cars type stiffness. If so, how hard is this for someone with minimal knowledge of working on vehicles to do? I was quoted $600 to replace the struts which included a rear alignment. Seems steep and if I can do the struts myself (with purchasing coil compressor) then have someone align the rear separate I'd probably save quite a bit of money. Just need to know if it's easy enough for me to do, I have sockets etc.

I'll add that prior to it being stiff , the rear used to bottom out it felt like. Sounded like it hit the tires over most decent bumps. So maybe coil springs are bad? Where can I find springs for this car. I'm going stir crazy thinking of these things lol
