I kind of want to use synthetic in this car because of the higher-winding nature of the VE30DE. Is it a bad idea to start using synthetic at 80k miles? I did this at 75k in my 300ZX w/ VG30ET using Redline (won't do that again at $8/qt) and it was fine. Just wondering. Otherwise I'll stick to the good ole Castrol GTX. Just thought it would be a good idea - prolly use Mobil1.

i use moble 1 syn n have been using it for 9 months now. I had 92k miles on my car when i bought it. now i got 110k. I 'd say stick to castrol gtx, thats a good brand. I really havent noticed any difference switching to a syn. blend, besides they r high priced too. If i had a turbo, i would definity use syn. oil.

I would not hesitate to switch. I switched at 32K with no problem and have had discussions with many others on other boards and no one has had any problem.
That said, the synthetics are typically a bit more detergent that most oils and I would consider an earlier oil and filter change after you switch maybe after 2-3K. More oil info at the link: http://www.micapeak.com/info/oiled.html I run Mobil 1 5W-30 normally and 0W-30 from Dec - March (Minnesota). :) I use either the Nissan filters or K&N Gold. I love the 1" nut on the K&N filters. If you have a hard time finding the K&N filters at your local store you get them through Summit Racing. http://www.summitracing.com/ That's my 2 cents... |
