17's or 18's?
I currently have 16's but i wanna upgrade and i know someone who will buy my wheels. I just wanna know, because i cant decide wheather to go with 17's or 18's. what would you guys get and why?
thanks -Mike |
i would get 17's cause from a perfomance standpoint the 18's are quite heavy and harder to spin. also with 18's you can really feel the road from what i hear. the ride is a lot worse with 18's than 17's.

i have a set of 17x8's...
and i am at stock ride height and they look pretty good and with a drop they would look awesome. if you are going for a show look or just want 18's to have 18's then thats up to you but otherwise I would go with the 17's. just my opinion

I'm willing to bet that 17's will not give much improvement..may even hamper performance. More rotating mass farther from the center of rotation makes it harder to stop and accelerate. Plus increased unsprung weight has a dramatic impact on handling..adding 10 lbs a wheel is like adding driving with another person in the car all the time.you want the lightest wheels possible, unless you have traction probs due to high horsepower levels. Unless you get high dollar forged aluminum wheels, money would be better spent on really good tires. Depending on what you have now of course. If you have bricks for wheels now in 16 inch and got to a lighter set of cast 17's, you may see an improvement. BUt in my experience, all you need is 16's with good tires. Spend more on tires. They are the key, not the wheels. Plus, try to get someone to straighten an expensive 18 inch wheel after you bang a pothole or two and you'll be wishing you had a little more sidewall to protect it. I read an article in Road and Track or one of the like that investigated this whole deal. Best results on an M3 were 17's with good tires..18's actually made handling a bit worse. Get some 12 lb Volk Racing forged 16" wheels and bangin tires and your car will feel WAY faster and handle way better.

well i have 16" neeper rapter chrome wheels and i just want something a little lighter and bigger for the look. I have 225/50/16 tire currently and i love them, they are nice and wide with good grip. But im seriously thinking of going with 17"s now! I just wanted to get some opinions on what everyones experiences have been!
thanks -mike |
whlie speaking of rims and weights, would anyone happen to know how much ROH RT rims weigh at 17x9? thanks.

18's!
in my opinion if your going to shell out that much money for rims and dont care about your 1/4 mile time u should go with 18's. they look sweet especialy wit a 2" drop. i have 18" motegi mr7 for about 2 days now and the ride is sweet. not as bad as i thought it would be. pretty smooth and alot more grip. 18's are what u want.
