Cannot Decide on PR CAI or WSP CAI... WSP just can't get them in.

I've called WSP almost everyday for a month, they keep telling me, anyday, anyday. So then i called and they had just sent some to the powder coaters. So call back on Monday. Call back on Monday and they say call back on Tuesday they'll check.
Call back on Tuesday, None for the VE in stock!! they just sent some to the powder coaters, it will be a week.

So now i'm stuck.
I have a race Sept 29th.
If i wait for the WSP i may not get it in time, or i may just get it in time but not have time to install it or get miles on it.
WSP is cheaper and comes with K&N filter

however i could probably get a PR CAI right now.
it's 50 bucks more and comes with a filter noone knows to much about and that kind makes me edgy.
That and i want the best sound which delivers that?

I'm the kinda person that needs a kick in the *** to do something
so some1 KICK ME!!!

Not to add to your troubles...

But Cattman has a really really really nice looking CAI out now. $195...

I've been calling every week, and they are telling me the same thing.

I like what james said

cattman definetly has a very nice one with nice bends in the tubing for $195!

Get the warm air filter with mid pipe, the hybrid man, suppose to be just as good, or so i hear.

VE's don't like heat though, so any help is always good.

air temp has an effect on the performance of the engine but the tube lengths of the CAI, hybrids, and pop charger is ultimately what makes one better than the other in different RPM ranges (fluid mechanics).

10 degrees difference is about 1% change in HP.

i did an experiment b4 making a decision on which intake to go with. it was done with 2 same temp sensors. i also did some fluid mechanics analysis, but here are some interesting results with the temp sensors to kind of prove my statement above:

-the wheel well DOES eventually increase in temp and comes pretty close to engine bay temp. it just takes longer for it to increase in temp than in the engine bay; if you stay stationary long enough the heat will get into the wheel well. the temp in the wheel well increased about 5-10 degrees at an avg of a 2-3 minute stop (75 degrees outside).
-a heat shield works to a certain extent. however, once heat gets in the contained area (since you can't build a perfectly isolating heat shield), heat stays trapped in the intake area. bad.
-at speeds over 30 mph, air in the wheel well and engine bay are almost the same.

i've gone from pop charger to CAI to hybrid. i'm sticking with hybrid. using an upper pipe from my PR CAI.

I like my PR CAI, pretty easy to install, maybe try getting one used
The filter looks pretty sweet, don't know much about it beyond that, but it's working for me

I've never heard of this hybrid, but I assume it's just a regular pop-charger with the pipe from a CAI in between the TB and the MAFS.

So, picture a pop-charger, but instead of that ruffled rubber piping in between the TB and the MAFS, it'd be metal piping from a CAI. No?

thats exactly right.

Sith, there is no telling how long the wait for WSP is going to be. I was ready to buy but I was told that they would be ready in two or three weeks. That was in the beginning on June...........

Brendan Sep 4, 2002 03:58 PM

Ok, do this, post a new thread about the hybrid, someone who has one and knows all a bout it will reply, then you can find out all about it, and see it.

I'll be using a intake pipe from a '97 non-tubro Eclipse to make my hybrid, I'm getting it from my friend and I'm gonna try and fit it this Friday, they have the same shape as the OEM pipe so I'm hoping it should work. plus only cost me $25 so what the hell.

Thanks guys.

I called Southwest Motorsports today and talked to Alex.
He said he could get one from Cattman in 2 days and have it to me in about 4 days
So i ordered it.
total came to 211 bucks
quite abit more then WSP but they had it so its a win lose situation no matter what.
Alex was great over the phone aswell, explained everything well and payed good attention to detail and was courtious and polite.

sorry WSP, just needed to get one soon. :(
maybe next time.

Keep us updated on that. The Cattman CAI is one of the nicest looking ones I've seen. It also seems to create an 'S' down into the fender, unlike the WSP one which is just a straight 90 degree bend and kinda doesnt wanna fit good.

Dude save your self some flow, and get the DIY CAI. It only cost me $80CAD, not US, so about $50US(for the lazy american who refuses to convert CAD to US)
