hmmmm, im going to throw out an i dunno.

however i can tell you that there was a thread a while ago that mentioned only 7 i believe "VLSD" in the US for us 3rd geners.
i know my auto had an LSD in it, im not sure if all of the manuals did.

heres how to find out. when you peel out/ burn out/ etc. did the power transfer between the wheels or would it just dig in with the wheel that started spinning first? if it switches back and forth its a LSD.

on rainy days going up a hill to get to my house, if i layed down to much power my car would jerk back and forth because the wheels would be slipping and the LSD was doing its magic. fun, but not if someones right next to you.

or look at the identification plate on the firewall in the middle of the engine bay
it will have your tranny code on it. if it ends in V then it has LSD

i see a "V"

craig: i remember reading that somewhere but didn't know if i should believe it. but coming from you (the imfamous person with the shiznit how-to webpage), i'll believe it.

mrgone: my auto has the VLSD too. however, i dunno how accurate that piece of information about having only 7 in the US is. i just can't believe i'm that special to own one of them. (plus the mechanics parts shop told me they couldn't locate an axle that wasn't VLSD for my car).

thanks again guys.

Make sure you hold onto your core so you can compare the new one to it. The guy swore the 2nd one he gave me (1st one was for VG) was correct, but the distance from the end of the spline to the seal area was off by about 10mm. I ended up putting on new boots myself for $23. It's real easy, and I'd recommend it if you know the CV's are OK.
