I've searched and I've searched, now I need a tranny expert

I've searched using "tranny bushing", "stuck park", "stuck tranny", "stuck shifter" and anything else I can think of. I asked for help getting my automatic shifter INTO park and then installed a new bushing under the catalytic converter heat shield as instructed. It helped with the other gears but I still can't get into park. One of the posts said something about a bushing that goes on top of the tranny, but gave no details. I can't find anything about this in Haynes or Chilton either one. I got instructions on how to get my key out of the ignition so I'm making progress here, but can someone tell me about two things?

Will installing the plastic bushing on top of the tranny make the shifter go into Park and, if so, how do I do it? My car is a '94 Maxima GXE dual cam with a 3 speed automatic.

It seems I read somewhere very early on about spilled soft drinks in the shifter box can cause this but I can't find that post again. Please help.

Pam

One last thing. My nephew did the actual installation of the bottom bushing but he left the washers off, saying they wouldn't fit. Is this going to cause problems?

Granny--

This could be a clue. I suggest asking your nephew what problem he encountered trying to re-install the washers. (The bushing underneath the car and heatshield is the one that wears much more rapidly than the other.)
