Hope battery doesn't explode...
 

My 91 GXE's battery voltage is jumping past 15 volts occasionally. I have a voltage monitor that is hard wired by tapping to the radio fuse and it beeps everytime the voltage reaches above 15. something. (can't remember exactly.) My radio also shuts off when this happens. My radio is a Sony Cd player.. The voltage usually jumps when i start my car up in the morning and keeps doing it for like 15 mins. Then it only does it when I accelerate hard. Then after 20 mins or so, its back to normal. I was messing my reqired corner lights last night and I'm wondering if a bad ground could cause this? My only idea is that the voltage regulator in the alternator is acting up. This would be my third alternator in like 3 years. I just got it changed 3 or 4 months ago. Hope it doesn't blow my battery.. any suggestions?

take your car to a reputable shop and have them put a good alternator in it. the V reg in the one you've got is crap.

I got it like 3 months ago and it never happened until now. If I continue to drive it will my battery explode?? Or will there be other problems from this?

Your battery is used to start the car only (or when its not running).
The altenator takes over from there. The spikes in your DC voltage will not cause your battery to explode. This is an altenator problem that you are describing. What happens is the brushes inside your altenator get worn, and break off. That leaves you with only a couple of altenator brushes spinning, and generating electricity. This is what causes your Volt gauge to spike.

A battery normally will explode when the internal water level gets low, causing hydrogen gas to form, then the lead plates inside the battery arc, which causes an explosion if the conditions are correct.
