can't afford a greddy exhaust
 

right now i cant afford a greddy exhaust system, but im planning on adding a tip sometime in the future, will this by any chance increase the sound or make it any deeper? i saw that the greddy is around 86 db at 3000 rpm, does anyone know the db for stock?

Just spend $125-200 on a 2.5in catback made at a muffler shop. I don't see why anyone would spend $500 on an exhaust and not $500 for an ECU upgrade :confused:.

performance mufflers cost around $100...installation = $50....same if not deeper sound that cat back. $500...you're just paying for GReddy's name on the muffler. look around. MagnaFlow is good

Thank God someone agrees with me! Catbacks are a waste of money. Buy a $50-100 Dynomax or Borla muffler and it will sound better + save money. The Greddy mufflers on 3g Maximas I've heard left me pretty disappointed, especially considering the price. Don't be a lemming and follow the current trend. Guess what, I spent about $600 altogether for my WSP y, hi-flo cat, b and borla turbo muffler. $600 barely covers a Greddy catback and hi-flo cat. What would you rather have, ricey looking Greddy (they look ricey, don't deny it!) or a full exhaust and more power?

I have a WSP y-pipe, carsound cat, and greddy and let me tell you this set up is worth every penny, I spent about $960.00 for everything and I am very happy with the tone of it and everything. You guys might say that's a lot of money but to my car and the conditions it is in I think it's worth it. If you're a person looking for noise and a drone this set-up is not for you, go to you muffler shop and buy a fart can and get it installed with pressure bent aluminum. Not only do you pay for name but you also pay for quality and 3 year warranty when buying a Greddy.

The only people who say don't get the Greddy are the ones that don't have one. And they don't look ricey buddy..
The greddy will probably out-last any $100 muffler. Mine looks as good as the day I bought it 2 years ago. Save your money and buy the greddy later on.

oh and to add to that, the Greddy was tested and designed to yield the most out-put, a universal muffler doesnt have that backing it up does it? The quality of the Greddy is also amazing its one of the best constructed systems Ive seen. So you pay for more than just the name:rolleyes:

The ECU is coming but I rather do things the correct way. Flywheel and clutch and then the ECU.

yeah why get the ECU when you dont have all the mods? spending the money then having to have it re-programed is kinda a waste of money

Riiiiiight. You guys go ahead and waste your money. This Borla turbo is SS and they last along time as well.

You know what's funny? I hear all these 240 guys, in the Nismo club I am a member of, saying the exact same thing about Apexi mufflers! :rolleyes: Apexi this, Apexi that, Apexi NuRsPeC baby! Apexi is such high quality! If you guys want to waste your money, fine by me. For about $1k total I will have a CAI, full SS exhaust, and Koni struts/shocks (found Koni's cheap from a friend).

BTW, all I was saying is that for the price difference, I wouldn't want to spend more money. I wasn't saying the Greddy was inferior quality or anything. Also, I don't quite like the way the tip looks either. To each his own. The Greddy just isn't my cup of tea.

come this summer i will most likely have to do exhaust... the entire thing from y to muffler. Y i will most likely go wsp being that ive heard 90% positive remarks about it. Cat maybe carsound or whatever else i find that is decent and will pass inspection. Now comes the dilemma... cat back. Id like to go with greddy but am shunned away by 2 things.. price and :wall: the tip/muffler. Yea call me a freak but i am VERY picky on looks, i just cannot see this on my car; i like the stock SE dual tips

now heres what im thinking as an alternative: greddy piping up to the muffler then a different brand muffler/tip; ive come across a few amongst my browsings...or completely something else besides greddy...or replacement stock..or 5th gen muffler

additionally, i want my exhaust to be fairly quiet; this is not like a 72 Chevelle SS here <drool> im not looking for noise

question to all you greddy owners; jay, diego etc... what benefits/gains have you noticed with the greddy performance-wise and whatnot?

I know but you questioned or reasons for spending the extra money and buying it. so we gave you reasons

I like the Greddy it made my car sound a lot better and feel a lot better. It doesn't ricey at all. If you want the dual tip then I guess you should get the remus rear section muffler which cost like $500 and isn't even a cat-back exhaust

again i have the dual stock exhaust, i dont have the money to get a system so by adding a tip where you can buy at pep boys for 20 bucks make the sound any deeper:confused:

from my undertanding JWT doesn't do any "special" re-programming for standard bolt-ons...so it won't matter what you have when you order your ECU you still get the same thing everyone else has.

ECU isn't programmed for each car and it's mods. JWT does special programming for injectors, turbo, NOS etc. So if you get the ECU first than bolt ons or vice versa the end result will be the same.

I would agree with those guys except I have a JDM hks hiper catback on my 250sx. I guess some people like the finer things in life..
I guess if I had some half-dead `85 stang I'd put a "borla turbo" muffler on my car.

GReddy has a name, and has R&D to back up it's claims. End of discussion there. The fact of the matter is, however, you can get the same gains, looks, and durability from a muffler shop exhaust. I have a buddy who has a shop. He did my whole setup. Mandrel bent SS 2.5" tubing all the way back, catco cat and perforated core muffler. That's a key, too... a perforated core muffler as opposed to a louvered core muffler. You don't have the restriction you have in a louvered core.

Oh, and a cheap glass packed ricer muffler is only $45 or so on eBay. Same thing you buy in the ricer section at Pep Boys. If you just want sound and look, just weld one of those things on there and be done with it. Any muffler like that is going to outlast your car...

I mean its all a thing of preference...personally I wouldn't buy a Greddy, IMO its overpriced and with less money I can have a full system built, same "quality" bends as Greddy and a GOOD resonator thrown on for sound deadening. its all a matter of preference and IMO $500 for a Greddy can be better spent for other things! They look nice and sound okay, but I just don't see paying more for something I can have made for less with equal results!

OH but you will get chrome wheels with bus tires huh??

Alright, I'll put by .02 in. I have a Greddy but it came with the car when I bought it. At first I really didn't like the look of it but then I heard it the first time I put the hammer down and I've loved it ever since.

If I had the money, I'd buy it. It's got a great sound (imo) and it will probably last longer than the car. If you're on a budget there are other things that will get you more bang for the buck. Just remember, you get what you pay for. If you buy a cheap *** muffler and it rusts out in a couple of years, did you really save yourself any money?

Does it matter if you have mods or not? The ECU program is the same if the car is stock or has bolt ons. The only time you'd need it changed is if cams or n2o/boost was added. Even then the ECU would have way more average power gain and way better throttle response. IMHO the exhaust should be the last upgrade.

I can't justify the money for a Greddy, but I would buy one if I had the money to throw around:D

I think they look better than anything else out there. Hopefully, OBX might make a Greddy alternative like they have for the 4th gens.
