Exhaust Manifold stud extraction

I have a broken exhaust manifold stud that I need to remove. This is on a 92 SE DOHC engine. Luckily it is the front side. Unluckily it is the left most top stud which is mostly hidden by the AC compressor. Does anybody have any practical experience removing a borken stud in this location? TIPS? Hints? Flames?

Well from the pre-work I've done so far, it looks like the grill, radiator and AC cores will have to be removed and the AC compressor unbolted and hung off to the side. I'm not sure if the AC radiator can be slide out of the way far enough with out discharging.

I'm going to be using some left twist drill bits to drill out the stud. These turn in reverse direction from normal drill bits and can very often turn the stud out without using extractors (which have a tendancy to break off in the hole you drilled).

I'm not sure when I will do this since I just replaced all the gaskets and hardware this weekend. The stud was broken off before I started and had eaten a hole in the gasket.

This looks like a long weekend project for a backyard mechanic if everything goes right, all parts art in hand and the right tools are nearby.
