oil change + oil detergent = silent vtc's (?)
when i change my oil (5w30 oil/60U filter) and add oil detergent (cd2 lifter quieting formula), my VTC's will go completely silent. the noise stops within two minutes of starting the car after the change, and it stays away for about 1,000 miles. then they get worse and worse, until i repeat the process again.
any(every?)one else's VE act like this when they change their oil? |
Use the Mobil 1 synthetic oil and Toyota oil filter

If springs inside the VTCs are weak already, nothing will fix it. But using a quality oil and filter will help prevent it. You want oil to get up into the heads asap

I have a 92SE with 120k, I did the mobil 1 and the toyota filter and the vtc's were quiet for two days. Like Jeff said I think my springs were already weak. My question is.......Will grounding them make a difference?
|
grounding vtc's will absolutley shut them up, since it disables them by not allowing them to receive their activation signal. it will mess w/your idle speed though, and i started to get some strange power loss too. go ahead and do it and see if you like the results. it doesn't hurt anything and undoing it is just disconnecting one wire.
warning: with the vtc's quiet, you may discover other noises. hah. |
