how many people mod their car's but dont race, and vise versa

i was just curious, how many people mod there cars for racing, and how many people add mods just for looks? for everyone with an aftermarket exhaust when other cars come up to you, do they try to race you?

Re: how many people mod their car's but dont race, and vise versa

I used to "try" to race, but my mods are just for looks. But if i catch a ricing honda messin with me i put them to shame. :) :) :)

Re: Re: how many people mod their car's but dont race, and vise versa

when you see a tricked out car next to you at the light...do you always race them, or have any of you did not want to and just want to be safe

KLoWnPR109 Jul 12, 2003 08:14 PM

I mod, but dont race. I just cruise, haven't gone over 2.5k rpm in about three or four weeks except for maybe 3-4 times

Even though I've got y pipe, intake, catback, and five speed coming along with UDP, I dont race.

Street racing is quite dangerous, belive it or not. I'm all for a race from a roll or stop if its about 3 am in the morning on a 3 lane road with nobody in sight, but other than that, I'm not gonna race just because some ricer at the light needs to prove himself.

Besides, why race when I'm slow?

jaykid806 Jul 12, 2003 08:20 PM

when people see my clear corner lights they always try to race me but i put them to shame

thats funny they want to race because of your corners.lol. Racing is fun but dangerous. I dont try to race anyone that has their car fixed up because they might have more mods than me and put me to shame. lol.:D

mtcookson Jul 12, 2003 08:41 PM

if i race on the road i just get to the speed limit as fast as i can and without breaking the speed limit. that way i'm not really street racing since i'm not really breaking any laws i suppose. now, i do like to go to the track and race. it's only a quarter mile in a straight line with a 16 second car but dang, it still gives me a good adrenaline rush.

AscendantMax Jul 12, 2003 09:20 PM

hehe ever since i got my magnaflow muffler and that maxima.org sticker, people would rev their engine at a light, fly by me on the freeway and signal their "win" by blinking their hazards, etc. oh well, whatever makes their day. i don't race, i just do mods for my own personal taste and customize my max to my liking. :)

Michael Jul 12, 2003 09:46 PM

dont race...dont really see a point in it. Even when I had a quick street car I would get revved at all the time and just laugh at the people because they werent even worth the waste of my fuel to mess with...dont take this the wrong way but I used to love getting reved at by imports...it was very funny and I think it would make them mad when I would bust out laughing right there on the spot...that was several years ago (around 7) and there were not quick imports around here at the time...still dont think there are any around here.

I knew who the other quick cars were and we raced but never something stupid like racing in town from stop lights with trafic.

NismoDrew91SE Jul 12, 2003 09:55 PM

While yet i dont support street racing, specialy on main roads, there are a few times when you cant help it. i usualy just get up to the speed limit and then just keep on cruising. pretty much by the time you get up to 45 you've shown most of the muscle your car packs anyway no sense in going further.

gotta love it though when you get these younger kids in their brand new hondas that thing the big muffler makes their car faster. you see more and more of them racing, and more getting into accidents. what a waste

pest2001 Jul 13, 2003 12:32 AM

i mod for looks

subs1000w Jul 13, 2003 02:24 AM

i dont see the point in wasting money for performance mods unless you go to the track and run your car i know a guy with a gsx who has 3k in aftermarket parts and should proboly run mid 13's but he never shifts above 3grand never races and has never run it at the track but he always says his car is so fast but when people ask what does it run i just start laghing at him and he has to explain that he doesnt know

lol you wish  , In know in NY (because I know people who have gotten these tickets for racing):

unsafe start
reckless endangerment
Illegal speed competition (no joke they will take your car then and there)

shavedmax Jul 13, 2003 06:56 AM

i have enough going on with my car, i dont need another reason to get pulled over and get busted for everything else.

jaguax Jul 13, 2003 03:05 PM

I'm starting to mod for performance, but I'm not gonna race or anything. I'm doing it as a hobby. Like many of you, I love working on my car. Just knowing that I have extra power because of new exhaust pipes, intakes and whatnot, is enough of a reward for me. And every once in a while when no one is around you can just floor it and go weeeee :)

shoult Jul 13, 2003 07:38 PM

Hmmm... I guess by "racing" y'all mean going quickly in a straight line? I never saw the point in that. Anybody can go fast in a straight line and the only talent is quick reactions. Other then that it's your car.

It ain't racing unless you have to turn right and left AND use the brakes. Give me some twisties anyday.

jakew8 Jul 14, 2003 12:13 PM

WOW thank you shoult! even when people say "go to the track" in this forum, it seems like they mean "go to the strip." my car has NO mods on it was raced at mid-ohio in porsche club events (fyi mid-ohio is a road course that hosts cart, indy, superbike, nascar, etc type events). all it needed was track tires on. if you guys have never road raced (not street raced, there's a difference), i really suggest it.

to put it in another perspective: if drag racing is so great, why aren't there any drag-racing arcade games? (haha just ribbing you guys a li'l)

anyhow, once you discover the joys of controlled oversteer, heel-and-toe, and threashold breaking, you'll never go back to straight lines again.

now...FLAME AWAY! :woot:

mtcookson Jul 14, 2003 01:19 PM

flame?? i sure hope no one would flame. racing with twisties is the greatest racing of all! that's why nascar is so stupid! lol

i saw a book a while back... "Nascar for Dummies"...

DanNY Jul 14, 2003 01:54 PM

when i'm on my way to work and almost home..
and gotta pee...
you bet ya arse i'm going to race!

i race buses, cabs, people on bikes, sometimes fuzzy animals, mopeds.

i put them all to shame..until they catch up to me at the next light.
:D

Michael Jul 14, 2003 02:03 PM

I dont think you would get flamed for that statement. I would love to try some road racing but I dont want to travel to do it.

btw there are drag racing video games though.

2 tha MAX Jul 14, 2003 02:10 PM

I used to mod and race but now that I got to many cosmetic mods I don't race anymore. I have added a lot of weight and I'm not really trying to get hassled by the police. They are already after me enough around here.

I guess you've never been behind the wheel of a ford Tempo??

No, for real. I don't race either. I just have a problem with driving to fast. I don't know why I'm always in such a hurry, but to answer the question. No street racing here.

jakew8 Jul 14, 2003 03:23 PM

nascar in the twists?

about a year ago i watched some nascar race on speedvision that had them on a road course. yes, that's right, stock cars and chicanes on the same screen. (i guess they corner alright if you make both sides' tires the same size, haha) i remembered it to be some sort of iroc race, but now i'm not sure. does anyone know anything about this?

mtcookson Jul 14, 2003 03:30 PM

:goofy: that's scary! lol

jakew8 Jul 14, 2003 03:32 PM

Re: nascar in the twists?

they showed those all the time on Speedvision...thats the only time I ever watch stock cars race! pretty cool to see those guys do more than make loooong left turns for 5 hours. I can't stand that driving in a circle **** for more than 5 minutes(no offense to the dihard Nascar fans  )

nismax1994 Jul 15, 2003 05:47 PM

modded, but don't race?

thats silly, like going to the mall in full football gear and explaining to everyone you don't play football.

i don't have any mods save for a chopped airbox, and i need a twelve step program to help me stop racing people. the thing i'm most ashamed of is i sometimes pretend i don't wanna race and wait until the other driver shifts into 2nd at low speed, then i punch it with my autobox still in 1st. i'm also ashamed that i flogged my poor 215k max going up greenville mountain on I26 today all because some civic with a farter muffler thought he could break 100 on the grade and stay in the right lane ahead of me. i'm also ashamed i ran 110 just before the mountain to get away from a grand am with multiple hood scoops and spoilers.

somebody help me.

chavez Jul 16, 2003 12:04 AM

I was racing someone on the way to work then i got booked... my racing days are over... :(

Maybe race up to the speedlimit but thats about it.

nubiannupe Jul 16, 2003 02:23 AM

Y'all are gonna burn in HELLo for talkin' bout racing...:redbounce

nismax1994 Jul 16, 2003 08:20 PM

but i'm saying its bad. bad when you can go out and pay cash for an old maxima that will blow the doors off some grand am that somebodys going to pay for the next 5 years and will probably fall apart in 3 years and never have 1 cent of equity in (fully reclined in his seat like "look at me i'm bad as hell with one hand on the wheel of this pontiac beast.") i should just smile to myself and not stoop down to prove something.

i rarely raced my talon when i had it, modded, you might say that. took down a few vettes in it. all the people i raced in it, i can count on one had.
my pathfinder is modded. not to a drastic degree. enough for 185 hp and 230 ft lbs. its not a race car.

once you mod a car, you usually can't stop. im living proof of this. i have modded every car i have ever owned. stock is boring even if you don't race it. its your car. no one else's
