Just got a new max What should I do to it ? shooting for mid 15's!

I am definately not a newbie to maximas I used to have a v2 s/c 98 5spd. I ended up seling taht car, and buying a mustang. I happen to come across a 91 SE 5spd. I paid $850 for it. It has 234,000 miles but runs great and looks pretty good. I can tell this car is not even really close to a VQ, but goes pretty decent. It looks like they run low 16's stock??? That seems about right i guess. I would lke to get to the low 15's I know that may not be possible. For $1,000 what can I do to this thing? I dont want it really loud, that is what my Stang is for. I read something about a timing advance? What do you have to do for that. Does the Y pipe gain much on these cars. It doesnt appear to have precats, so i would expect the gain to be minimal. What type of intakes are people running??
please help!

first of all b4 mods.... make sure everything runs properly, basically a major tune-up is what im sayin... then i would say a CAI y-pipe cat-back udp... even tho i dont have any of that but the cai

you want low 15s? get a y pipe, intake, and use the rest for nitrous

shift_NAWS.

you've got a mustang for noise and speed. a VG maxima (unless you turbo or NOS) is never going to be fast. don't even bother.

if you realllllly want to mess with it, Y pipe, intake, tuneup, underdrive pulley and aluminum flywheel should put you into mid/low 15s and be about $1000.
(ahem... email me if you want a flywheel. ;) )

agreed intake, under drive pully, y-pipe, tune up, possibly a cat back. NOS

a full bolt-on VG 5spd should be capable of mid 15's in prime running condition. with 230k+ miles who knows what it'll pull...

intake, Y, catback, UDP, ECU should do it...NOS etc is icing on the cake

A VE Auto and VG 5spd run almost the same in the 1/4 mile stock. I shaved more than a second and a half in my VE Auto. Here are the cheap important mods:

Stock I ran 16.40
With regular cone filter ($25) 16.30
Ypipe ($240) 16.00
UDP ($130 for VE) 15.80
Timing advanced 5 degrees 15.60
Port TB 15.50
AC Belt 15.45
Ram Air ($15) 15.25
Testpipe ($35) 15.15
Loud Muffler or no muffler 15.05
120 lb weight reduction 14.90

Just some stuff you can do. But if you wanted to start things off by making your VG 5spd a little peppier, ... get a cone filter and Ypipe. Then by the time you get those mods, you will have done a LOT more research and you will have a good idea of what your next mod will be.

come check out my Cold Air Intake kit for the VG. Intake and exhaust are what I would recommend first, then n2o if the engine is in the right condition.

I would go with Warpspeed for your exhaust, at least 2.25", maybe 2.5" and you'll be good. costs $170 from them :)
