90 Maxima Won't go into gear when cold
 

I have a 90 Max that will start every time ~~ however when it gets cold sometimes the button on the shifter will not depress so that I can shift out of park ~~ only happens sometimes and only when below freezing. Dealer did not find anything.

Well I was about to say to change your transmission oil (ie, put in some Redline), but you have an auto.

Sloppy shifting usually means your transmission is on the way out. Save some cash and swap in a 5spd. Be sure that you get an old 92-94 SE transmission that has the limited slip diff. Check E-bay for prices.

I do appreciate the reply ~~ however I don't have any shifting problems. The only thing that happens is that the button seems to freeze so that it cannot be depressed, so that I can shift. If I let it warm up a little and restart it several times I can then depress the button to be able to shift. Works well all summer and most of time in the winter. Only happens when I am running late to work ~ Hummmm ~~ maybe I am on to something.

Do you get a clicking sound when you press the brake pedal? Can you shift out of park if you use the manual override at the base of the shift lever? Sounds to me like a bad connection somewhere in the shift lock loop.
