!@#$!@ steering ball joint thingy!!!!

I'm replacing my hub and I need to get the steering arm joint off the hub. I've tried everything...bashig it repeatedly with a 10lb sledge, bashing it with a large chunk of metal, prying at it with a screwdrive, and finally using a ball joint popper.

after one bruised thumb, a blown back, and a snapped ball joint popper I have not moved it one milimeter.

someone please tell me how to get this @#$%@ thing off...

the ball joint fork and mallet/hammer should work...you just have to beat it mercilessly. I just struggled with one today on a CRX and it takes forever and a day worth of beating to get those fockers off  JUST BEAT IT!!!

Dude I know your trouble there

It took me 3 days off and on to get my passenger side one off

I used a ball joint seperator fork thingy on it for about a day of pounding with a sledgehammer and no budging

I spent the next day trying to hammer it out from the bottom with no luck

Then the third day I did a rotating combination of both and finally got it out

buy a pickle fork then. they're indestructable...

the way I usually get the stubborn ones off is to heat the spindle part with a blowtorch, while whacking it from the side with a hammer.. hitting the outer part from the side will make the center bore turn into an oval slightly and it'll then go back... after a while, the tie rod end will eventually pop out.
I've had some that I have to beat on for 20 minutes.. others come off in 3 whacks.

Did you try chewing on it yet? :p

just dont break anything on the car, otherwise it wont go anywhere tommarrow, or atleast not on time.

It's amazing what you can learn from an evil, oppressive moderator, eh? :)

put the car on a hoist, put the fork in the ball joint and put a 4 foot pipe on the end of the fork, pull down and it should come off with little effort. ive done this twice in auto shop on my car.

ugg... tell me about Ball joint woes... after about three hours of healthy hammering on my passenger side, I just lost it, and got my sledge hammer from the shed. One whack, and the ball joint separated. :)

But then, the nut on the spindle wouldn't budge for anything. I had clamp on to the spindle with a pair of plyers (both hands suqeezing to stabilize), and "leg press" the wrench that was loosening the top spindle nut. Madness...

But fun, now that it's over. Shouldn't have waited 10 years to replace mine, I gues... :)
