Matt's Product of the Week- reinforced RSB Links!!!

These are some crappy pics of the first one I made.
You'll notice there are two different heim joints on there... For the "production units," I've ordered a female joint with a stud in it- basically a blend between the two. Unfortunately I didn't have any on hand when I made this piece. I've ordered some and they should be here by Friday.. I'll clean it up and post more pics then, but you can see what this part amounts to.

It will include the angle iron piece and the self-tapping screws that go into the frame rail. just use a hacksaw, grinder, whatever to cut off the old one, then install this one by drilling two small holes into the frame rail and screw the self-tapping screws in and it's mounted! If you wish, you can take it to a muffler shop and have them weld it onto the frame.
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about that though, as I've had the same thing holding my RSB links on the car for two years now and no problems.

Anyway, here's the pics. Again, please excuse the old-school Heim.. it's the only female one I had in the garage at the time.

Matt = ownage! soon enough Matt, soon enough...set for me and a set for my brother...

Matt93SE Jan 13, 2004 10:07 PM

Dan, Grade 8, zinc plated. if you want SS, you can pay for it. ;) I don't see zinc plating being a corrosion problem.

want me to show u some zinc plated hardware after a few salt filled winters. :D

Matt93SE Jan 13, 2004 10:20 PM

That's okay... :)
It's all 3/8" fine thread. wont' cost you but a couple bucks to replace it yourself. ;)

(most of the car is put together with Zinc plated bolts. If the car hasn't fallen apart yet, then you won't have a problem with these)

Torres Jan 13, 2004 10:24 PM

hey Matt

when ur ready 2 ship them out.....plz get me a total price for shippin' to Toronto, Ontario Canada m6k 2z3 :D

Thanx

Matt93SE Jan 13, 2004 10:41 PM

call it $10 to ship to canada through UPS.. I got raped a big one when I shipped the RSTBs to you guys through USPS..

UPS was around $13, USPS was like $28 for 5-6 day delivery. (the next option was $24 for 5-6 WEEKS)..

-shock211- Jan 14, 2004 06:59 AM

i'll order when torres orders so we can save on some shipping costs.
torres,

internetautomar Jan 14, 2004 07:00 AM

i'll be able to order the st sway bar kit through you this spring right?

Cliff Clavin Jan 14, 2004 07:10 AM

Yeah, don't use the Post Office, they suck. Just send letters through us. I am tired of delivering all those freaking packages.

how big are the self tapping screws that you use?

I made my own brackets about a year ago and used self tapping screws and grade 8 bolts (2 ea) the drivers side one is still in but the passingers side one is in the trunk for the moment.

Matt93SE Jan 14, 2004 07:41 AM

used a pair of 1/4-20 screws for the self-tappers.

I've actually had mine on my car for a couple years now with some #10-24 screws, which are considerably smaller than the 1/4" screws I'm using with this kit.. If they held fine, the 1/4-20 are sure to hold.

i assume these links eliminate the problems i've read about in regards to ppl snapping the links and/or having to weld the links to make them stronger?

you are running the ST swaybar though aren't you? I have an Addco and still have stock springs and sturts for now. Puts much more strain on the bolts.

anaximander Jan 14, 2004 12:57 PM

You left out the most important part of the marketing. What's their purpose?

Matt93SE Jan 14, 2004 01:24 PM

Yes, these are much stronger than the OE links. If they break, I'll replace them.

Many people (almost everyone) that have installed an aftermarket swaybar end up breaking these links sooner or later. The ones I've built are much stronger and shouldn't have the breakage problems that the OE ones do. If they do, then I'll replace them. :)

(Fyi, that's all said on my website. I just assumed people here would know the purpose since most of us have had problems breaking sway bar links before)

Sounds good. What about the front ones?

MrGone Jan 14, 2004 04:37 PM

front ones don't break and I think if they did, Matt would have broken them by now :)

Matt93SE Jan 14, 2004 05:56 PM

LOL!!
Pretty much!
There's no need to do anything with the fronts... yet. ES makes bushings for them, and the mounts are strong enough, so there's no need to do anything else up front.

Jack. Jan 14, 2004 11:00 PM

Thank you for your perfect timing and affordable price range.
