intake's

which intake is better in your opinion, cold air or regular intake. and which companies is good to buy from? any help is apprecriated

pezking4 Jan 30, 2004 03:05 PM

A Piggie Racing CAI would be a good bet. PM Little Piggie and see if he's still backed up on them or not.

Otherwise you can just make your own custom short ram intake with a MAF adaptor and a 3" cone filter.

Maxima-4DSC Jan 30, 2004 06:55 PM

he is backed up still ive been waiting since october however mr gone may be helping him out soon !!!! yeah !!

pezking4 Jan 30, 2004 07:02 PM

MrGone Jan 30, 2004 08:16 PM

you people know me too well.

stupid brakes are never going to be used :(

Call up Cattman and ask for a 'seconds" CAI. It will have some scratches in the paint or something meanial like that wrong with it but mine works great. Good sound under acceleration and a noticable power boost. Oh and it should be like $175..I think mine was 192 after shipping.

Karmapolice Jan 31, 2004 12:32 AM

"seconds" Is this real??

yeah its real...basically its some that were scratched in shipping and returned or scratched before shipping and never went out...stuff like that. They may or may not have any when you call but its worth a try.

Kinda like a scratch and dent sale at a furniture store LOL.

89maxSE Jan 31, 2004 09:07 AM

vwink182 Jan 31, 2004 09:17 AM

Been around...I have actually posted more in the last week or so than I have in a while. Just been busy and I hate cold weather so I have pretty much stayed inside instead of working on my car. Its warm today so I am going to do a few things.

:D

I wish I was finished with the car so I could enjoy the ACC besides just looking at it LOL.

I really turned a weekend project into a career with this SE.

yeah they make them. There is a post going right now that says a certain one on ebay will work but I dont see how and will not recomend it until I see actual pics of it installed.

I do know warpspeed sells them for 175 though and cattman makes one along with place racing.

here is the Warpspeed site with the CAI click me

reygarcia Feb 2, 2004 12:33 AM

reygarcia Feb 2, 2004 09:57 AM

I need to learn how to weld :(
I'd be able to make my own then.
somehow I don't think muffler clamps would look right

josht913 Feb 3, 2004 07:41 AM

Ok, Thanks

do any of you know anything about like homemade intakes because someone was telling me that they do just as good...and if so what would i need to make them Thanks again..
Josh

internetautomar Feb 3, 2004 07:46 AM

a properly made home unit will work as well as a mass produced one.

Well it depends on what kind of intake you are talking about. A home made pop charger (cone filter on the end of the MAF...for example go to my page) can be made cheap and works just as well as any other pop charger. That is its only good for noise. The under the hood intakes or as some call them HAI (hot air intake) dont really make power but make noise.

A home built CAI would be just as good too but you have to be able to weld in order to make one. A CAI will make some power because the air will be colder and denser since its drawn from outside of the hot engine bay.

94M@X Feb 3, 2004 10:49 AM

Does anyone make a heat shield for a pot charger (HAI?) Would it make a diffrence?
Thanks

no because it will still be drawing in hot air from the surrounding motor. If you want performance get a CAI.

AscendantMax Feb 3, 2004 02:18 PM

popcharger will free up some HP. i assume the temp outside and under the hood is relatively close once the car is moving at a good rate. (correct me if i'm wrong though :wall: )

yeah if the hood is off LOL. I have no idea actually but I would think it is still much warmer in the engine bay because of a couple of things

1. There are plastic covers on the bottom of the car so most of the air coming into the engine bay is going through the radiator (I am sure some will come up from the very bottom too). That is hot air coming out the other side of that radiator...going right into the engine bay.

2. a lot of the heat is going to be trapped in the bay because its not going to vent that well.

also why would they even make CAIs if it wasnt cooler outside the bay.

These are just guesses and I could be completely off (has happened before LOL). I do know that in the summer my car has less power because of the pop charger and drawing in all that hot air...could be all in my head though.

MrGone Feb 3, 2004 02:42 PM

I couldnt tell a difference with a cone filter or stock modified, or that to stock, or atleast one that I can remember.

I did however feel a difference when I took off the intake resonator. I'm still waiting on a coupling so that I can install my mid-pipe.
