Stereo wiring(Involving lighting too)

I'm sure alot of you have ripped out the stock POS bose system. Atleast the head unit.

I can't get my corners and gauges to turn on, unless i have then wiring up to the 'switched' 12v' .

Anyone know the correct way to wire an aftermarket head unit? (As far as the lighting goes)

1. Get a Haynes or Chilton manual for referance. 2. Buy wiring harness for your stereo. Any stereo shop will have what u need, heck even Wal-Mart carry's them, though I hear they're junk. 3. Check your fuses, you may have somehow crossed a wire or ground. 4. Send $20 dollars to...j/k.

Alright... I'll try to be more clear. When i pulled out the bose system. I hacked off all the wires(could be more careful). I wired up all the needed wires to run the new sony head unit. Leaving the other wires hanging in there.

Now when u turn on the head lights.
-The gauges should be lit.
-The corners should be like.
-The rear lights on.

None of them turned on. I found a red, silver, and yellow striped wire behind the head unit. I took that wire and hooked it up to a 'switched' 12vt. wire to the stereo.

So when ever i turn my key. It turns on the gauges, coners, halo eyes, brake light, etc. It's the only way i can get those things to work.

Is there anyway to wire it so that it NORMAL?

All ihave is a Hayned manual, Where can i get a chiltons?

As far as the Chiltons goes, u can either wait until the website is back up( Check sticky's), check ur library, or any parts store should be able to get them. Wal-Mart also carries them, if they don't have one for ur Max, they will order it. As far as the wiring goes... If you don't have one, beg borrow or steal a test light, or just buy one they're cheap, and turn on your lights. Start testing wires until you find the one that turns on and off with the light switch, tie the red/silver/yellow wire in and call it a day. You also may want to try to see if you can get to the wires for the light switch and see what colours they are, but the wiring diagrams in the books are just easier.

..naw, its the sony junk screwing everything up..within weeks, no electronic devices will work and you'll run out of blinker fluid..

..and for a touch of reality, a test light or a multimeter would be a tremendous help..and when you get things figured out, try to remember for future reference, NOT to go hacking away at random wires..

Hey, sorry I could not be much more help to you last night, but I was at work. I looked at my Haynes today and found the wires ur talking about. Look at 12-64( Bose wiring diag.), you will see that there are 2 wires, one is Red/Yel and labeled Ill Cont., the other is Red Blu and labeled Ill Sw. Both of these wires dead end on the diagram. Next turn to 12-40, and look for the light switch near the top of the page. U will see that there is a Red/Wh hot wire from the fuse panel to the switch, and a Red/Yel wire from the switch to all of the accesories and lights. My guess is that if you tie the red/yel to the constant power u will solve ur problems. U may have to tie in the red blu as well.
If this doesn't work, try running these wires to ur ashtray light or something that runs on the same circuit. If I confused you, or u have any questions, PM me your Phone#. I'm at work, so it won't cost me to call.

did you disconnect battery first? if not you probably fried your Timing Control Unit. You need to remove the lower part of the driver's side dash. it will be a white box behind another box. disconnect that, open it up and look at the board. if you see anything wrong, replace the board or unit.
