I need everyone's opinion on this mod except for Matt93SE
 

I want to purchase the ground kit from Matt and I would like to know who has it and how much of a difference can you feel on overall driveability. Honest opinions please and don't tell me to buy it just because some of you are friends with Matt. j/k!!!

If I had money, I would buy it from Matt, since I dont, Jeff and I just made our own. But the thing is, we also soldered ours like Matt does his.

All in all, the ground wire kits work, as long as you install them correctly. I think those ebay kits say to ground the TB and strut tower, wtf?

The other nice thing about Matt's is that it is cut to length and installs stealthly.

So performance-wise, I take it that you noticed a difference?

faster starts, engine felt more torquey, maybe better gas mileage, even though I am not consistant enough in my driving to tell.

can't you make these your selves? w/o having to buy a whole kit? and if so what all is needed?

I notice how my car definetly hesitates during acceleration, which makes the car seem older than it is. Does installing this kit make your car feel younger and as responsive as...say an...2003 TL? Although my dads TL isn't the type s and only has 225hp, that things seems so fast to me cuz it doesn't wait 2 years to downshift. Will this kit solve my problems?

You seem to have a tranny problem if you are complaining about the time it takes to downshift

what I mean is it seems like the car's taking a deep breath before it starts moving. On the other hand I might have a problem with my tranny, because every now and then, the tranny slips between 2nd and 3rd gear and I have to let off the gas. I don't like a/t

I made this kit myself and I spent $30 on it!! I did all that running around town, spending all that time cutting and soldering my wires... when I could have just bought Matt's kit. For a few dollars more, you get a kit that's probably built a lot better than you can do yourself. If I had to do it all over again, I would still make it myself b/c I'm bored and want to make stuff myself. But if you don't have 4-6 hours to drive your car around town trying to find out which wire to buy and then buying connectors and crap and use up $10 worth of gas running from store to store ... just buy Matt's kit!! It will save you a LOT of trouble. Plus you know everything is done right and you got a good quality stranded copper ground cable.

well.........i'm hearing some good things so I guess I just might buy Matt's kit. That is....if he has some still left. :goofy:

I guess in the end, i'm looking for mods to improve my trap speed in the 1/4; and this just might help in the end.

I made my own too and cost about $25 total. I noticed an improvement in idling and stereo bass, maybe some acceleration (VE 5spd). My starting is unaffected which is odd to me since others mention it consistently (I have new plugs and uncracked coils except one). I spent a lot of time on it since I wanted to do it right.

Like Aaron said, if you don't have the time or know how, then just buy Matt's kit. Automatics will probably notice more difference than manual trannies.

for the guys asking about throttle response, it makes quite a bit of difference then you stuff the pedal like what you're talking about. before, when I would stomp the pedal to the floor, I'd hear the engine make a big *gulp* sound, it'd stumble a split second, then the RPM would start climbing.. now when I stick the pedal to the floor and let off as quickly as I can, the engine is already at about 3500rpm. if I hold it down and let off when the tach hits 3000, it will actually hit the rev limiter and I can see the needle bouncing inside the gauge it moves so fast..

(then again, I've also got a Fidanza, UDP, and CAI)

so how much is your kit since people are saying it's better not to do it your self?

I believe it's $60, and that includes shipping and handling if I'm not mistaken. Not a bad deal at all.

I just bought one for the VG, and it looks great. Haven't installed it yet, but I'll post when I do. Thanks Matt!

Definitely helped my shifting in my automatic. Great quality and it made the job a lot easier. Worth the money.

If you know what to buy/where to buy it/and know how to do it, then it's not hard to build one.

But if you don't have easy access to all the materials/tools, just buy it from Matt and save the hassle. Materials alone will cost $20-$30. Then there's the 1-2 hours of running around town for the stuff, then there's the 1-2 hours of fiddling with the soldering iron/measuring etc... If your time is worth anything more than squat, it's a wash at best. Plus Matt's kit will look better. As your 1st try will probably suck. :)

I have a 1989 SE 5spd and it works great. Took a bit of time for me to get to one of the grounding points that are included in the directions so the overall process may have taken me about 45min-1hr to complete. Can feel the difference in the torque, especially after pulling off a complete stop. The entire electrical system seems to work better, too! After installing the ground wires, I had to adjust my amps because they were too cranked up a bit too high. Once the car hits about 750 RPMs in first gear, it pulls strong and smoothly. I can definitely tell the difference in all the gears as well!!! Plus, Matt made a custom set for me in the color I wanted (clear w/silver braided wire). Even with my custom color, you still have a hard time seeing the wires, which I like.

Thanks again, Matt!!! :bowdown: I'll try to get those photos to you sooner than later... I've got some other issues to try to solve first. Don't want to send a bunch of grimy engine shots to you ;)
