I was wondering about your opinions of the Chilton's manuals for the 3rd generation maximas. Since I have a 92SE. I notice that the book I have covers 92's as the last year. Will the thing have info on my VE engine? In general, are the manuals good? Or should I try and get my hands on an "Official" Nissan service manual. Thanks for the help.

Ciltons and Haynes.......

are good enough for minor stuff like tune ups, brakes and other basic DIY's but for "bigger" jobs your best bets are to save up for a Nissan FSM, it might be more expensive but the information and descriptions are 10 times better!

yes it will have info for the VE; I have that manual, and it's allright, but like Da-Max said, a factory service manual is definitely much more helpful
try courtesy nissan for the FSM or ebay (where I got mine)

hey,
i have a factory shop manual that i'd be willing to seperate with. . . . for a price he he he! my buddy worked at nissan and swiped this for me. anyway, when i was rebuilding my jeep, chilton's said "if you really know what you're doing" i just about flipped out! we had to call my buddy who's a jeep mechanic. man, was i ticked. now i jujst get factory manuals.

Would I be able to understand the factory shop manual if I have limited previous car knowledge? Is it a bad book to be my first book about the max? Does it cover everything the other books cover?
