Droopy door hinges

On my 92SE the driver's door droops a little because the hinges are worn. Is there a replacement pin deal or do I need new hinges? Thinking of swapping with good hinges on rear door--they're perfect. I've been checking for salvage stuff in my area and there are just hardly any junk maximas.

I think you have to get whole hinges, but they aren't that expensive each. Sounds easier if you take the fender off I think.

I just did this; cut some strips of aluminum can. fold and flatten them to get about a 1/16" shim, loosen the bottom hinge bolts, ( mine was the driver's door), prop or pry the door up so you can get a shim in close to each bolt under the hinge. re-tighten. unprop your door. Get that new-car-door feeling. Sooooooo sweet.

Rzirker, you are the man. I purchased new door hinges for my ’92 SE’s driver’s side door a couple of months ago. Since I really did not feel like fiddling with the fender, I just have them sitting the trunk for now. However, after reading about your solution, I went to my local Advance Auto Parts store and purchased some washers to act as shims. Sure enough, two on the top hinge’s bottom bolt and three on the bottom hinge’s bottom bolt did the job—along with about 2 hours of trying to get the daym door aligned properly. Is it perfect? No, but it is 200% better what I had. Nonetheless, I am still going to install the new hinges—one day. Now, instead of the ’70 Chevy clank, I now have a nice “new car” thud when I close the door. Yaaayyy.

Thanks rzirker! Did the fix on my 92se today and now the door works like a champ! Used washers as that sounded like a good idea too! Should have done this before I soldered the door lock timer, as when I was testing I hit the door lock with my elbow all the doors locked and my keys were on the floor of the car. I across town from home. Anyway the door works great thanks to the org.

total work time - 5 minutes
total cost of parts - 10 cents
