Now it's over here:

This is what's in its place:

Cliff's Notes:
Bought 240 for $1400 w/ blown engine.
spend $400 on new engine, $100 on registration, $300 on other parts, and I have a car that's worth $5000. :)

Anybody want to buy an S14? ;)

(FYI, this is Maxima related because my Max is in the background of one of the pics. ;) )

Greeny Oct 18, 2004 06:25 PM

Why can't i find deals like this. :bawling:

HTPerformance Oct 18, 2004 06:28 PM

I'll trade a VE supercharger kit for it. ;)

Maxima-4DSC Oct 18, 2004 07:04 PM

awesome deal wish i had the time to tinker like that.....

mtcookson Oct 18, 2004 08:16 PM

WTF?!? You swapped an engine... in a 240SX none the less... and the new engine doesn't have a turbo on it?!?! you're crazy!

that thing definitely looks nice. we have a 95 S14 that's a bit more beat up due to my brother trying to impress his friends but that's another story. that's definitely the way to buy a car though. we just bought an 85 300ZX turbo for 800 bucks. only problem was the clutch was slipping. fix that up for a couple hundred and we'll have a nice runner.

dkris42 Oct 18, 2004 08:24 PM

how much you want for it? and what are the specs on it?

internetautomar Oct 18, 2004 08:29 PM

you paid that much for one with a blown motor

because u don't have a front plate on your car :wall:

Matt93SE Oct 19, 2004 07:06 AM

No boost on this thing.... yet... It's going to be daily driver duty for a while, so I'm going to keep it stock. I may sell it and pocket the money, dunnno. If I do sell it, I'm going to ask $5k for it- since that's what they're going for in autotrader in this condition.

actually swapping engines in this car is EXTREMELY easy, as far as swapping engines goes. the wire harness and vacuum hoses took about 10-15 minutes to hook up.. it took us longer to drop the engine in and get the tranny bolted on than it did to hook up all the belts, pulleys, hoses, and wiring. I think about 10 hours of work total from rolling it in the driveway to driving it around.

mad true
- but all that weight?! and drag?! its worth keeping off

o yeah matt, i just relized.. air tools make EVERYTHING easyer, that would of been a full week project for most, (without air)

engine swaps....RWD > FWD

punching buttons and changing ECU code > fiddling with tiny jets in a carb and hoping it'll work just as well next week when the weather changes

MrGone Oct 19, 2004 08:15 AM

changing jets by backing a screw off 3 turns, rotating a flange pulling out the old one and dropping in the new one > replacing a rear injector on our car

Matt93SE Oct 19, 2004 08:29 AM

replacing injectors once in the lifetime of the car > changing jets every time the weather changes

;)

:grinno: Carbs are fine in the summer, but forget about them when it's cold :wall: unless you are dam good at tuning them
I'd rather have DIS anyday, way fewer problems. but when they do creap up :( more money to fix

unless you're dealing with a first gen q45. that thing was much harder to remove than the engine and tranny out of the maxima. i did do it by myself but still... sometimes rwd swaps aren't easier than fwd swaps

Jeff92se Oct 19, 2004 09:47 AM

You like dist over dis??? Buhahahahaha. Step out of the horse and wagon days sometime.

of course it depends on every car. if the engine bay has more room it makes the swap a lot easier.

swap on a 300ZX TT can't be easy due to tight engine bay.

swap on a S13/S14 is not too bad since the bay has a lot more room.

3rd gens has a decent amount of room.

generally speaking the RWD is a little easier.

I was saying it's easier to remove, going off of Dannys RWD > FWD thing

but yes, the mechanical advance dizzy in the mustang is fun. With all the computers and crap now days, its really fun to have an older car and learn how to tune crap the old way.

Jeff92se Oct 19, 2004 09:56 AM

Um dist is easier to remove than a DIS ign?? odd.

Mechanical/vacuum advance/rotating weights is one old arsed way to control ign curves etc... Good to learn I guess in an ancient sort of way. Eventually, the vacuum canisters leak, the weights get gummed up and the points wear down. Screwing everything up. That's the reason why they went the way of the DoDo bird. Unreliable ign systems cannot pass modern emissions tests and keep the engine running well.

You're up early. You should be delivering my axles

less wires is all I meant (there are only 7 wires on the mustangs engine, 5 if the coil was mounted remotely).

I went to bed at 6 :(
Work up at 8:40 because my parents had new couches delievered, now I want to go back to sleep because I close tonight, but Mr. Blehm has been keeping me awake the last hour and tuk some of mah moneys! :naughty:

Jeff92se Oct 19, 2004 10:15 AM

Wha? Deliver my axles!

Matt93SE Oct 19, 2004 10:29 AM

****, I'm with shawn!!! I'll take a dizzy anyday over that BS DIS mess...call me a caveman, but hell, coil packs and struggling to find a decent aftermarket ignition system can blow my dong! :p

Emanage is very unforgiving and Mitsubishi coil packs aren't free :(

mtcookson Oct 19, 2004 01:23 PM

just as long as leaf springs aren't used on cars anymore i'll be happy.... oh wait... they used some on the new c6 vette. :tardsmash

distributor is ok with me... carbs are an absolute no. no control at all with those. at least with an ecu and distributor you can control the timing pretty well.

internetautomar Oct 19, 2004 02:00 PM

I like leaf springs!!!
they're profitable!

DIS is much easier to deal with than a distributor.
BTW DIS also includes cars that have wires, but no distributor

nubiannupe Oct 19, 2004 02:23 PM

Did we digress somewhere in the course of this post??

Gjohnson Oct 20, 2004 09:08 AM

Matt, you never cease to amaze me.

What's really hilarious is, I sold my VE last week and I'm searching for a 240.
