Exhaust woe's
 I brought this on myself...
I had an exhaust cutter so I decided to cut my muffler off to see how it would sound like. On my 2000 Accord V6, it sounded quite nice and wasn't droney whatsoever so I thought why not. :thumbsdow Its loud, very loud, from 1,800-2,200rpms but after that, it sounded quite nice and had a mellow growl. After a couple days, I decided to have a body shop weld the OEM muffler back on for $20. After that, I noticed when starting the car, the car still had a growl sound to it along with a slight exhaust leak sound :banghead: Turns out I somehow ruined my flex section near the back on the driver's side. Looks like I'm heading out tomorrow to get estimates on flex section repair. How much can I expect to pay for this repair? I'll have to see if its worth doing so, or putting up with the exhaust growl (quite nice sounding mellow I must say, but when I'm next to another car, you can hear a slight sound of exhaust leak with it) for a couple weeks and going for a WSP y-pipe. |
LOL... oh my god that probly sounded soo bad.
- if its that bad just get the wsp Y pipe cuz your stock Y is made of 100% rust, and won't stop rotting out untill it falls off. Maybe invest in a whole new cat-back w/ muffler too... -where do u get ur exhaust work done? |
I would definitely get a performance y-pipe. The exhaust shop will probably charge 1/2 the cost of one for the parts and labor and it will only be a temporary fix. Not to mention the fact that the y-pipe is the most restrictive part of the exhaust. When I put mine on, I could definitely tell the difference.
If you buy a y-pipe, you can put it on yourself and save the labor charges. |

I had to fix my flex myself. Here are the pics. Also you can see what ball joint flanges look like. 10x better than the crappy flange flanges that everyone uses.
http://community.webshots.com/album/130755966JCNcyY Note: Some of the uglier welds on the Cattman Y aren't mine. This was done by some "pros". Cripes. Even my amatuer arse with a cheapo 110v mig did a better job than those guys. |
i cut my muffler off on my se before and i was told it sounded badass from outside but it droned way to much inside to keep it that way. what's funny is it is much more quiet when the exhaust is dumped up front. no resonation or droning or whatever at all... pissed me off.
