How to put in Driver's Side Axle
 

I am trying to put back in the driver's side axle. I am not able to get it to go back in. There is a ring at the end of the shaft that seems to be preventing it from going in. I dont want to damage anything so I wanted to make sure that I am doing it right. If anyone knows how to do it please let me know.
