finally got 20's on!!!

I will have the pictures either today or tomorrow ,but hopefully today. The choice of rims I have may not be everyone's choice, but I got them for a very decent price that I couldn't resist. The tires are 255/35/zr20 Kuhmo's and I have the gold and chrome player wires. I know its ghetto and u all will say ughhh, but other people and myself think that look nice. Most people have asked me were they 22's. I did have to roll the fender a couple of inches and cut small pieces of plastic for them to turn. I also used 1/4" spacers. I also had to get the front and rear lifted because in the back it looked like I had the rim tucked, but it scrubbed like a mofo. I have a full turning radius with no rubbing. Let me try to get these pics.

What did you do with your old Wheels?

joe4 Dec 5, 2004 03:16 PM

the mechanic used some kind of rotary grinder. i dont know if thats what you call rolling but you get the picture. what he really did was make the arch of the wheel well larger. the piece of metal at the back of the wheel well that looks like a mohawk sticking out was grinded down also. it was like where two pieces of the frame met that were pinch welded. after it was grinded down he rewelded to make sure it was still together.without the fender roll and lift turning was good for nothing. I personally like it and I've been getting compliments from a lot of people. The main question everyone keeps asking me though is "are those 22's? i grin first then I say no there just 20's. I admit though if I ever put small wheels on again it'll look like duke. and I sold my wheels for $250. They were only 16's with low pro's.

i tried to get them today but I couldn't catch up with my boy, because he has the digi cam. Hopefully tomorrow.

joe4 Dec 5, 2004 04:35 PM

I will try to go get them balanced tomorrow. How much should I expect to pay to balance a wire wheel or should it be the same as a regular rim

ghostridden Dec 5, 2004 05:07 PM

 20's?? personally thats too big for me, i think 18's is the most anyone should put on a max....but hey whatever floats your boat!

Maxima-4DSC Dec 5, 2004 05:10 PM

if you had to raise the car it wasnt worth it. but thats just my opinion....if anything you want to LOWER the car.

shavedmax Dec 5, 2004 05:43 PM

dude, i dont even roll wires............................................. ..

joe4 Dec 5, 2004 06:02 PM

to lift it was only 20 bucks and 1 hour of my time altogether front and rear. they were metal brackets at autozone that you screw the nut until you get to the height you need. I called around to a couple of wheel shops to make sure they were ok to use and reliable. I got the okay on them, so I bought them. wires are actually not that bad plus im mainly keeping them until tax time, so I get get guys 20's who are trying to get 22's. and the people who want 20's can get my 20's. as long as i am still seeing people with 13 inch wires or 11 inch wide racing wheels on ALL kinds of cars, I dont see anything wrong with 20's on a max.now 22's ona max is not worth it, there was a lot of hacking just with the 20's but I like it.ssssooooooooooooooo.

shavedmax Dec 5, 2004 06:08 PM

im not dogging ya, i just dont think that wires, especially that big look good on a maxima. be careful with the autozone spacers, i've used them the other way around(to lower the car) and they do have a tendancy to snap, leaving you stranded if your wheels rub.

post some pics

joe4 Dec 5, 2004 06:10 PM

i really want to get a nice set of 20" spinners that wont stick out. the sticking out is gay, but I think a deep dish with a spin kit will look nice. I seen one 3rd gen max with 18" rims but with a 17" spinner so it could sit inside the rim and it looked quite nice.

ChrisCheezer Dec 5, 2004 06:13 PM

oohh em geee...

i know the things u are talking about!!
everytime i hafta go into a stupid auto store like that i can't help but walk around and make fun of the stupid things they have...thoes things were one of them, lol not only are they bad for your springs but, once u hit a bump their going to go flyin out...

YO i hafta see pics NOW.. i wana see this car sooo bad!

Yo shavedmax.. havent seen u around here to offten? what have u been up to?

joe4 Dec 5, 2004 06:16 PM

when going straight the front was not rubbing until i tried to turn, so thats why I got the front rolled and lifted. The rear...........that was a whole different story. The arch of the quarter panel had less than a quarter inch of clearance from the top of the tire whick made it look like I had it tucked. It made a rub noise everytime I hit a bump. But the problem in the rear was due to me having 5 12's in the trunk. and yes i said 5 12's.

ChrisCheezer Dec 5, 2004 06:20 PM

PICS PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
no more talking.. plz i need to see this!!

joe4 Dec 5, 2004 06:20 PM

also a high school friend of minehas a 92 park avenue. he already and trunk sag and it got worse when he put a stereo in. he used those same brackets to lift the rear back when we were in tenth grade and we're in college now and they still havent broke. Thats a true life testimonial, but I guess using them to lower just puts more stress on the bolts.

joe4 Dec 5, 2004 08:53 PM

got a camera and went to a gas station here they are...

AscendantMax Dec 5, 2004 08:58 PM

looks unique

not my thing, but to each of their own :)

DA-MAX Dec 5, 2004 09:03 PM

to each his own...

and now IMO...those rims don't nearly go with the car. :rotz: it totally detracts from the look, very tacky IMO...its more so "hey look I've got 20's" rather than "hey look, I have a set of tastefully chosen rims that make my car look better"

but again to each his own...I guess

ChrisCheezer Dec 5, 2004 09:11 PM

GAT DAAAAMN!!! CHROME IN YOUR FACE!
get some shots tomorrow/daylight of the fender and stuff...

im not into that whole "pimp my ride" look, truthfuly im suprized.

ghostridden Dec 5, 2004 09:25 PM

dude that is tight :drool1: , personally i don't like the wire wheels but i must say those look good man, good job ! :doublethu

HTPerformance Dec 5, 2004 09:27 PM

A body kit might offset it better....... might...

The front still looks a little high compared to your rear.

Might want to shave the pinstriping....

ahhhhhhhhhhh  wtf!!!!!!!!

Jeff92se Dec 5, 2004 10:29 PM

Trying for that 4-gen 4x4 look? :)

Actually if you could lower it enough to not make it look 3x too big for the car, I'd like it.

internetautomar Dec 6, 2004 04:12 AM

looks like an ignorant brotha wanting 15s on his impala and thinking he has to lift the car because it used to have 14s.
you'd think someday people would learn how to size tires and wheels correctly and avoid all of these shens.
Just my .02

joe4 Dec 6, 2004 05:08 AM

the back is always going to sit lower than the front because I have 5 12's back there, its no biggie though

Matt93SE Dec 6, 2004 06:44 AM

If you've already jacked with the springs, then ride height has nothing to do with what's in the car. just adjust them so they're both even. that's the cool thing about coilovers.. (which we don't have).

joe4 Dec 6, 2004 07:21 AM

in the rear i have it almost as high as it can go without being at the edge oof the screw in which I dont want to take my chances plus if i lower the front to match the rear ill end up scrubbing in the front when I hit a large enough dip in which I dont want to take chances on either. also that slant is actually kind of cool to me. sittin tall!!!!

vwink182 Dec 6, 2004 08:32 AM

My dad's Pathfinder sits that high. At least you know you can make it out of town in case of a flood. *Bling* :ugh: *Bling* :Puke:

Maxima99SE Dec 6, 2004 08:52 AM

sick, and not in a good way :(

Kikcaffine Dec 6, 2004 10:41 AM

you physically could not fit 5 12" subs in the trunk of a 3rd generation period. Im going for 4 and i have no room as it is, they are being molded into the side panels. you sir are an idiot!

hahaaa...i was thinking the same thing. 5 12"..where are the amps going?

blacks92seAuto Dec 6, 2004 11:00 AM

actually you can fit 5 12"s in our trunk... he could have only 2-3 amps powering them all, or if like you say, he is an idiot, he has 1 big one powering all 5, but he could mount the amps underneath where the spare goes, and add a cooling fan, there is a box that fits in our trunk that has room for 3 12"s and then he can have 1 12" on left side and right side....
But I ask...why the hell would you even want 5 12" in your car....I have 2 10" subs and my **** can be heard when Im turning onto my street at the far end of the block. 5 is just too many

Maximan190 Dec 6, 2004 12:22 PM

http://s92599732.onlinehome.us/smili...files/ugh2.gif

and yes you could fit 5 12s in the trunk.... maybe not 15 but definitely 5 i can see. I dunno why you would want 5, my 2 are good and loud enough
