Ticking that isn't my manifold studs?

I've noticed that my Max has got a noise that sounds like a ticking/tapping noise. I mostly hear it when I'm pulling in between 2 parked cars, or near a wall or whathaveyou. If its very cold out side sometimes I'll hear it when the revs get a little higher, then I shift and it'll stop, then happen again. Once the engine gets real nice and warm, it'll stop being noticeable...until I park near a wall or between cars heh.

Any ideas? VG engine. I was thinking valves/lifters, but I'm not very familiar with this engine.

I was thinking this could be my manifold studs, but its too quiet for that, and mine aren't that old.

I'm also pretty sure that I've got a weeping head gasket :| Its not getting into the oil or burning, but the smell is there. I think its just running down the block somewhere.

You can check your manifold studs. Take a flashlight and look around the manifold area. There will be 6 per side. Also, when the engine is cold, just "feel" for them.

possible water pump bearing failure? Not to familar with the max's water pump but from what I have read it is somewhat prone to failure. Plus you say you smell antifreeze. Just a thought. Could be way off. lol
