I'm in!! Bought a '93 SE!

Found a 1 owner with 104K miles about 30 miles away. It's red with an AT and totally stock, for now, anyway. Very good condition with the exception of the rear spoiler, steering wheel, a few places in the headliner, and the intermitent working of the stereo. Don't have an owner's manual yet, what gas should I run in this thing? Been using premium so far just in case.
Thanks for the forum, I'm sure I'll have questions!

89 Octane or higher I believe I'll check my manual once I find it.

I bought a 93 Se once, I Stripped and sent it away! lol. Too bad it didn't have a running engine, probubly would of kept it.

I have a 1-owner 93 5spd. 1-owner and 104k miles is great. You'll appreciate that thing for sure.

I run a strict Chevron 91 octane diet myself.

internetautomar 01-05-2005 07:09 PM

Premium only for mine, but then again I think my knock sensor no good

Bman 01-05-2005 09:13 PM

Congratulations! :)

I'm pretty sure that you're "supposed to" only run premium grade for the DOHC VE engine like in your SE.

Creedence85 01-05-2005 09:43 PM

Premium fuel is "recommended" not "required" for normal operation. This means that the timing is able to retard itself enough on regular gas to run normally, but the restult will be lost performance. Generally on engines where premium is "required," detonation will occure with lower octane fuel which can damage the engine. In heavy load situations and/or high heat, you could start to overhead the head with regular gas, due to less cooling of the head from the air/fuel mixture being cut back, but that's an extreme situation. Pretty much everyone who likes their car and likes performance is running 91 or 92 so if you're fine with that, stick to it.

how much did it run ya rapid boy?

Vadim-93GXE 01-06-2005 02:34 AM

But is it worth it to use 89 on a VG, or should I just go for 87 worry free?

RapidRoy 01-06-2005 03:04 AM

RapidRoy! Not boy! Old Jim Croce song. $3,500 I'll go ahead and run premium, 91 or 93 octane around here for the extra dime a gallon. Hopefully will get decent mileage to offset it somewhat. The vision is good on these cars, lots of glass.

Way to go finding an Aztec VE. Sounds like pretty low miles and a decent price.

I think AT 3rd gens get mpg in the low 20s. I would expect like 21 around town and 25 on the highway. A stock 5-speed will get around 27 on the highway. You wanna play, you gotta pay. When you put your foot into it, the mpg goes down substantially.

When I added AMSoil gear oil, fidanza/ACT my mpg went to 30 on the hwy. That was with my original engine. I drove it not long ago a full tank of gas on the highway and I got 29 mpg, but I had a couple of leadfooted incidents in there.

If you want to do better than the high 20s, you need to buy something with four cylinders.

internetautomar 01-06-2005 07:24 AM

I get 12-14 mpg :bawling:

I use the cheapest stuff I can find (87) and haven't heard a ping yet.

You have the VG motor, you can run 80 octane on that crap I mean motor. The VE needs a little higher, the manual says so.

I use 93 octane on my 1992 maxima and I bought it from the first owner with 71,000 miles, today it read 98,020 and running very strong.

So what does the manual say to run on VG?
