It's time to put the old girl down
We'll last night i was coming down a gravel road and lost it :noes: . She slid atleast 35 yards sideways until i hit a ditch and rolled her. When it was all said and done i was upside down with four tires up. My shoulder was dislocated from the the b-pillar and my hand is thrashed because when she flipped my arm went through the sunroof up to the elbow. DAMN DEER!! :banghead:
I was looking for a replacement and thought i'd ask for your opinion. a. 93 max se (but this time with a 5-speed) b. 97-02 pontiac grand prix gtp c. any car for about the same price that you have had experience with. THNX!!! |
you can get option B for the same price as A?
I would just go for A :hs: |
which would be quicker, i've never driven a gtp before.
|
Gtp's are pretty quick especially if you change the pulley on the s/c. http://www.clubgp.com/cgi-asp/qtrmile.asp
My friend had a 97 Grand Am GT. The car wasn't the greatest on quality. GM doesn't know how to drop the push rod engines too. |
stock for stock the GTP would be quicker but id take a VE 5spd over a GTP any day of the week
GTPs interior quality isnt even comparible to a 3rd gen |
Why ya hatin' on the push-rods? Just because they're heavier, less accurate, and prone to harmonics doesn't make them inferior to variable-timing overhead setups....
wait, never mind :run: |
Push rods.... so Mr. Gone's mustang :007:
 |
rebuild her. no really man at least your ok thats what counts, i would go with the SE because the ponticraps interior is one of the most uncomfortable i've ever been in, even though the boost gauge is pretty cool.
|
I feel your pain dude... I rolled my VE5 maxima on a dirt road... Heres some pics.

Go for the '93 maxima. Also, good to know your OK. Rolling a car and coming out with only a broken shoulder, could have been worse.
|
go drive them both, and then decide.
BTW the GTP isn't available stick. personally I'd have a tough time choosing, but prbably would end up with the GTP, parts pricing and availability are 2 major factors to me. |
thnx for the imput, other than the pontiac or max, what other car could hold it's own against a 3rd gen, for the same price. I don't want to by a slower or less fun car than my max, but i want to know of other options.
pics soon! |
Glad to hear ur ok, sorry about max tho.
You think about a 97 or so eclipse gst/gsx or the Talon tsi? They are 210 hp bone stock I believe. Mad turbo lagg on the AWD versions but they stick to the road very well. |
190 hp .
i would stand with the max , since you got some parts in spare , and the overall quality is nothing compare to a GM . But , being a GM , nissan , GM , GM , nissan owner ( never owned nothing than those 2 ) i would say the GP is a good bag for bucks , GTP supercharge is quick , and road grip is impressive . Make and idea by yourself , and go test drive those you will find , and check out this used car site : http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/index.cfm good luck man |
is GTP front drive or rear? if front.. stay with the max.. if rear, go gtp.. prolly more fun to drive
|
whatever you choose, drive it safely. it's good you're ok, you're lucky it wasn't your head poking out of your sunroof
|
here some info on the Grand Pix GTP
http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/u...x.cfm/id/2315/ also you should look at this history of the car and the reliability of the car, it up to you, either get another max or get this car and expect to pay alot of money down the road with problems from the car, |
reliabilty is all about perception.
I've never replaced injectors on my chevies, but i had to replace them on my max I've never replaced window regulators on my chevies , but i've had to replace 2 on my max. it all boils down to perceptions and expectations. |
