plz don't say this is a stupid question...but...
Well i found a maxima i'm really interested in. Its a dark dark green, almost black, tan leather interior with leather door inserts, digital climate control, sunroof, 125k miles, i think a 93, am/fm/cassette/cd player, bose. Everything on this car is PERFECT, one little spot on the driver side front fender, looks like a buggy hit it, nothing major. Well my question is, when i was looking at edmunds.com to appraise it, i looked at the specifications and it said the 92-94 GXE maximas only have 160 hp, but the Se's have 190, is this true??
|
what a stupid question
:p its the truth :) |
damit....i thought i found my dream maxima and it turns out to only have 160 horsepower....oh well back to looking again.....sorry for the dumb question man...
|
89-94 GXE's and 89-91 SE's have the VG30E, 160 HP, 190Ft-LB, monsters around town as their power is mid to low.
Only the 92-94 SE's have the VE30DE which has 190HP and 190ft-lb, and its power is mid to high. Very nice engine if you do alot of highway travle. GL finding a good max!~Alex |

what about a 5th gen?
5th gen DE-K powerband feels like a VE's, but the VE feels a little stronger up high. The last person I remember ever arguing about VG's being better than VE's was skymax, but the difference is he had the mods to back it up... then again his fully modded VG was still only really on par with a stock VE, been almost 3 years now tho :( |

Yes original VG is lame, may be changed: pack more mixture into cylinders and thatsit. Block is the same as VE (except slight compression diff, (bypass VTC for now)). Modded personal opinion: no need for more pwr [than :) 200], in everyday drive. And still theres never enough pwr... Maybe if I had VE, the mentioned number would stand at 250? Sigh. VG is enough for now. |

the only maximas i can find for sell around here at VG's, if i find a VE its.....well repulsive, completely falling apart, no one around here is selling a nice VE!! |
How difficult would it be to put a VE in a VG car?
|
it'd be easier to just buy a VE

VE with bolt-ons is all you really need start doing crazy stuff its not even worth it on these cars, better just to buy a real car :o |
well the problem is just finding a dam VE max, hey mr gone, where you located? wanna sell yours?
|
he's all the way across the country up here in seattle. I wish I had a VE at times, but sometimes I don't mind the VG auto :shy:
|
there seem to be a ton of max's for sell up north or across the country....i'm never gonna find one, lol
|
I really thought it was hard to find a clean lookin VE 5spd, since my area doesn't have any. All are auto, or if you do find a 5spd(very rare), it is most surely completely destroyed inside and out. Thats what I thought before I was ready to buy one. Once my VG died, I started searching those sites like www.edmunds.com and to my amazement, there were clean 5spds all over the place in the near by state known as New Jersey. I never thought it would be that easy. It just sucks havin a 5spd here in NY.. Too much freakin traffic. May just get myself some cheap auto car to commute in.

I havent had any motivation to finish it but if someone was willing to at least look at it and think about buying it then maybe I will get on the ball and finish it up. I go to bham all the time and I know ftpayne isnt that far from there. |
if you drive like i do, its about 1 1/2 hours away from bham, what color blue are you painting it?? i don't mind it being an auto, once the tranny goes out i'd just replace it with a 5speed, so hell ya i'm interested!! you're prolly the closest i've found a max
is it in good condition and stuff?? |
Answer the question!

Whats the difference of the 2 engines? can it be done and how hard is the swap? I think that was what he was looking for and personally I wouldn't mind knowing the same. I want to know the differences so that I can decide if it's eaisier to buy another car, Or if I want to challenge the swap! Not what you think. |
well dip **** when you ask a question you get OPINIONS. there are 400,000 posts about this, search for it, the layouts are different you would have to change a lot, just be easier to buy the car unless you know what you're doing
awsm66 you have a pm man |

Adding a turbo would be the better way to go. You have to change the motor, trans, all wiring, ecu, axles, hubs and probably a few other things I am forgetting. All those parts would cost you more than just buying a car with a VE in it already. |
see it would be easier to just buy the VE, and less time consuming

is it in good condition and stuff?? I've been flogging mine for 2 years now, with no terrible problems. I do need to do my shifter bushing though :( |
