no hazard lights but turn signals work?
ok so Im driving down highway 71 in downtown cincinnati when my car starts pulling to the right. I pull over and what do you know my right front tire is totally flat. turns out I ran over a small nail.
while Im on the side of the road getting ready to turn my hazard lights on. nothing..... I try again, nothing..... so I am having to change my tire on the side of the highway with no hazard lights and to make things worse I find out that my spare only have 13psi in it. :tard: :tardsmash what can I do about my hazard lights? what do you think could be wrong with them? I know if they are not hooked up on the dash your turn signals wont work but they do work so what could it be? Thanks for your help! |
The plug on the back of the switch may be disconnected....If you or someone else has installed a stereo on something like that it may have been left off....
|
yeah but like I was trying to say if you dong plug that back in then your turn signals will not work. my turn signals work as long as I have the hazard light switch off. if I try and turn on my hazard lights they dont work and my turn signals dont work.

Sounds like the switch is bad

switch bad or grounded lead wire...happened to me last winter
|
hit up Alex_V for a switch, im sure hes got one on his parts cars.
maybe take it out first and see if its got any corrosion and clean it if it does. |
yeah I guess I can try and take it off and see if it needs to be cleaned. if it still wont work I will try and get another switch.

Gotta love the search feature :)
For the past couple years my hazard lights have been doing the same thing. But since I seldom use the hazard it's out of sight out of mind. This past weekend I tried to figure out what could be causing my issue. The problem: - Left and right turn signals flashes are normal. - Push in hazard switch and nothing, lights do not flash. - Turn off hazard and turn on either left or right turn signal, the lights will flash - With turn signal still on, if I push in the hazard switch, the turn signal lights will stop flashing - Turn off hazard (with the turn signal still on) and the lights start flashing again I've tried a couple different hazard switches and the same thing, no difference. |
Lol I have the same problem for about 2 yrs. I never figure it out. And I switch the sensor under the dash n the harzard button like you did.

10 year old thread back to life

So I recently tried a different Nissan flasher and no change. The turn signal flash but the hazards do not.
|
The hazard lights operate on their own relay. If a turn signal stops blinking, it's either a bulb or the relay because one of those is interrupting the circuit. Assuming you've changed the relay already, have you checked the wiring to the switch from the relay? Circuit break is most likely there, instead of in the wiring to the markers.

Combination flasher unit? From a 3rd gen right? That's really the only culprit aside from the switch, other than that it's going to be a wiring/connector issue.

I'm all for saving a buck, but these relays are only $12 at AutoZone. Used electrical components aren't always the best idea, unless you can see the circuit or have tested the relay per specs.
Given the PITA a wiring problem might be, I'd get a new relay first to be sure you didn't get a bad one from the junk yard. |
Check the fuses carefully. The turn signals work off of one fuse and the hazard flashers work off of another fuse.

Yes, the flasher unit was from another 3rd gen. It was from a salvage yard 3rd gen. That's what I'm afraid of, it being a wiring/connector issue somewhere.
Some scuffing and cleaning of the blades made a reliable connection again. |
