Eh.

My q: Is tHere smbdy who has not yet seen an oily engine?

just one question: What air tank capacity do you have to operate that 90 degrees drill? All I have is a 25 gallon tank, and I need to fix the studs soon, one of my exhaust nut actually broke off and went flying while I was on the highway.

MrGone 09-19-2005 05:56 AM

I went and grabbed a bowl of cereal even though I have broadband :wiggle:

I swear it looks dirtier in the pics than it did when you were over. Head/header looked brand new

mattcomet82 09-19-2005 06:08 AM

i may have done a little de-turding....

wiking you were asking me for these pics last week!?!? the pics you get are only so good with filthy hands on an ezxpensive digital cam...

i believe its around 30-40 gallons, about average. there's not much drilling you need to do, so even a smaller tank should work. you only need to drill about 3/8" on each busted stud.

Greeny 09-19-2005 06:16 AM

I wonder when mine are going to break.......285,000 and none yet.:hide:

Dillbag 09-19-2005 06:41 AM

MyGreenMax94, have they been changed before you got the car?

Dillbag 09-19-2005 06:43 AM

mattcomet82, two things: Is that a Carquest oil filter I saw on your engine? And also, it looks like it's time to tighten up those valve cover screws.

Naw....The previous owner kept meticulous records of all service done to the car...Even the oil changes were documented and a receipt stuffed into the owners manual booklet.....

maxitech 09-19-2005 07:16 AM

Having a lift would be key, at least my buddy has one! Nice Blehmco Grounding Kit.

goon9 09-19-2005 01:14 PM

quite a few q's, one at a time.

yes, it is a carquest filter. one of the two knowledgeable places around here, plus my buddy has an account.the valve cover gaskets are probably original, but i'm not putting any more work into this motor. i have a spare vg i'm about to pull and rebuild. i wanted to get a few more hours under my belt with a mxima before i did a major rebuild.
yes, all things are possible with the strength of our lord the lift. i never would have tried this had i not had one. notice the tranny jack in the corner?
the radiator stayed there the whole time. all i had to remove on the front side was the compressor and dipstick tube mount. i did have a 90deg drill and lift, it may be necessary to remove without these luxuries. i did replace the fan shroud while i was there.

it's so nice to have fully contained exhaust. i still have yet to chop the old and weld on the new magnaflow, that'll be next.

it hasn't been steam cleaned, i just try to keep it looking good. having all those pieces off gives you an opportubity to reach some remote filthy places as well. plus i still have all my under motor shields.

maximaboi 09-19-2005 07:43 PM

is it just the VG that has this issue or is it both the VG and the VE?

They both have the stud issue.......Except mine:D:D:D:nervous::noes:

Dillbag 09-19-2005 08:03 PM

I didn't say, replace the v/c gaskets, just tighten the screws, silly. It sometimes helps the leaks slow down, or stop untill the screws loosen again.

thanks. are you replacing the bearing yourself? i have two 5spd transaxles with bad i.s. bearings, info on replacement/ refurb would be much appreciated. i'd like to rebuild my trans before i start my vg rebuild.

Yeah, me. Gonna do it in the AutoZone parking lot with a ratchet set. Can't wait. :hs:

Anyway, Nice job. What are the signs of needing to replace exhaust studs?

505max94se 09-22-2005 10:55 PM

MrGone, is mattcomet82 the guy that I met when I came to house?

only a ratchet set? you may need quite the cheering section to get through this one. if you can't visibly tell if your studs are busted already, go under the hood and pump the throttle a few times while the motor is still warming up. you should be able to notice if you have an exhaust leak. if you have a leak, most likely at least a few studs will be busted during disassembly.
