What should I use to fill my motor mounts?

My front motor mount is toast, and I want to fill it wity some type of polyurethane. What product do you reccomend? I have heard both good ad bad things about Window Weld.

Do not use window weld. Just get the regular 94a polyurethane.

Fill them up with polyurethane.

MrGone 09-25-2005 02:34 PM

polyurethane

:sprint: That way you'll know when they're starting to go again.

After some reading, I decided to go with the 60a from mcmaster carr. I wonder if I could do all 4 mounts with 1 pound? I was only planning on doing the broken front mount, but if I have extra I'll do more.

That site has everything I would need to build a 60 foot tall man eating flame throwing destroyer mech.

One pound will work for all of them if you don't spill any. Done it twice. If you are on a budget, window weld does work decent as well, and it probably closer to the 60a. Good luck

Took out my old mount today. I couldnt remove the bolt that goes throug the mount and attaches it to the bracket, so I ended up taking the whole thing out with the engine bracket. Drenched it in liquid wrench, and I still managed to round off the bolt and teh nut head with a 6pt socket.

What now?

Cut it off w/ a hacksaw, and buy a new one?

If you are talking about the aluminum bracket on the rear tranny mount, then just leave it on. You could also cut it off, but it isn't hurting anything as it is.

What's wrong with window weld? I must have missed the poly thread.

Does that work well? How stiff is it, and do you feel the idle?

Aaron92SE 09-30-2005 06:29 PM

I used the 80a at www.mcmaster.com. The part number is: 8644K11

1 pound was barely enough for all four of my VE Auto mounts. I spilled a very little bit b/c my duct tape leaked. Trust me, it will leak on you too if you aren't VERY careful about making a good seal with the tape.

Some pics of my polyurethane motor mount job can be found here: http://www.iwdwebdesign.com/maxima/morepics.htm

Mine leaked hellas. Stupid cheap ducttape.

Man, I should have worn gloves. this stuff is impossible to remove from your hands.

Yeah, one thing I found out is when you first mix the resin, don't pour it in right away. That stuff is slicker than oil! It will leak past the duct tape no matter how well you think you sealed it up. But, if you wait a few minutes atleast, it will thicken very slightly. And then you better fill all your mounts very quickly or it will thicken up too much too quickly. Fun stuff! And very messy.

feelin really dumb

guess i have some serious searchin to do...never heard of refilling mounts...have always just replaced them....then again i haven't priced out replacements for the max....gotta love finding out there's more stuff u don't know

OBEEWON 10-02-2005 02:33 AM

use nitrogen, it will give you better gas mileage, and you can cruise at any altitude...
