tires rubbing so what do i get for my 18's
 

my car is lowered and right now i have my stock rims on with i think 225/60/15 tires on them and when i crank it all the way to left if i hit any bump regardless on how slow i am going they rub. my question is i just got some 18's and i was thinking on getting 225/40/18 or should i go with like a 215/40/18 or 225/35/18. see my main concern is the road were i live REALLY SUCK we were voted pot hole capital of the USA in 1999 i think so i would like to keep as much side wall as possible. i know that a good driver will avoid them and i do but coming home at night when it is dark its hard to see all of them. any opinions?

Go 16" or 17" instead. With the narrow sidewalls you'll have with a 18" rim, you're looking at much easier chance of denting the rim.

I live in an area with crappy roads, too. Trust me, don't go bigger than 17

arent 17's the best size for our cars any way?

its all a matter of opinion...I prefer 18s depending on the wheel style. Here is a pic of my old car with 18s.

I have seen some 18s that dont look right because of the style but wheels that have a lip to them look better in 18s imo.

also back to the main post...do not go smaller than 225/40. You will bend a wheel quick. I believe the 225/40s are slightly smaller than stock size so you should be OK and not do any more rubbing than normally.

I think those rims were ungly on that car. But who care's what I say because I was just jealous my black maxima didn't look that good nor did it have those sexy arse rims on it or the nicely done kit or the lowering springs and manual tranny. I guess I am a hater.

Actually there are probably a lot of people that didnt like the car. There are more people on here than you realize that like the factory look, dont like the big wheels, low stance or kitted look. I just do what I like and if people like it great if they dont thats their opinion...doesnt sway mine.

my new one will be similar but a different color and a little more performance oriented (from how I had it not how PA has it now). I wish I could find those wheels again but its next to impossible and I cant talk PA into selling them back :D. If I decide to keep it I may do some other cosmetic stuff to it but not sure.

I think is car looks nice but. I personally liked my Maxima better without the body kit. But now that its gone I have a nice new project thats a little easier to work on. And a tranny swap is really easy but I dont know why I would want to get rid of the manual in a truck with 500ft-lbs of torque. And putting the front tires in the air is fun.

I'd probably go for 17s...18s are too gangsta for me :p awsm I love the way that maxima looks in that color with those rims

I had 17" with 225/40/17 and they looked good but i noticed that i could go bigger without any trouble. So i sold them and got 18's. I don't think anything larger than that would be practical. You'd have to rap electrical tape on the wheels for tires.. I like a larger rim verses larger tire. And in my opinion i love the body lines on a 3rd gen max but i don't like the way it tapers in so much on the bottom of the car all they way around mostly on the front... which is why i bought a Stillen body kit. But like i have said numerous times "cars are like art everyone has there own opinion on what hot and whats not!"

i went with 215/50/17 with the 2000/01 rims i barely fit on my rear tires had to cut small portion of strut's frame to prevent rubbing, so hmmmm.... i wanted to go with a wider footprint like 225/45/17 like the OEM rim setup for the 2000/01 max yrs, but no way i could do that.

ok so youre running a 225/60/15??? thats wrong for one. thats probably why you rub. as far as 18s, youll be fine with a 225/40/18 tire. i ran 18x8 with a 30mm offset and a 235/40 and that pushed the threshold on rubbing. i had to roll the inner fender lips on the rear had i had a higher offset i probably wouldnt rub. but it looked too good. plus im going to 19s now probably.

well i have Size: 18"x7.5" Offset: +48mm and i just don't want to buy the wrong tires if i can. as far as what i have for stock i think that's what they are I'm not sure they might be 205/60/15 not too positive guess i could check

I have 2K3 SE rims and I, too was getting a bit of rubbing in back. But have you ever heard of wheel spacers?

just get a 225/40/18 tire its probably cheaper than a 235/40 and you might need spacers for a +48 offset, not 100% positive

as far as the spacers i guess I'll find out when they mount the rims on but that won't be for at least a couple more months. Winter won't make up it's mind if it's over yet and i am not going to ruin my rims before summer even starts.

I am currently running 225/50/17 on 17X7 with a 35 offset, are these tires to big they do rub a little when I cut it hard to the left. Is this rub because of the 50 footprint or what?

my uneducated guess would be that 50 is way too wide..

50= sidewall height expressed as a percentage of tread width (225)

whoopsie thats right, sorry mixed them up, thanks Brian. In that case I doubt its the 50 lol dont see why it could be 225 as stock would be 205..If I was the only person here you'd be SOL cuz I dont know, hopelly the rim guys will be here answering soon :)
