Intake's the name of the game

Im just wondering how many ppl have intakes on thier cars or plan on puting one on and which one did you use but just let me know about your expirences with one

tripleGmax Feb 17, 2006 12:52 PM

I have a warpspeed intake with a monsterflow air filter

my experience: sounds cool

vision90 Feb 17, 2006 01:05 PM

thats cool im looking in purchasing a cold air intake in the next couple of weeks i just havent found one that acutally matches do you know if i can fit one for a 95 to 99 max

tripleGmax Feb 17, 2006 01:10 PM

http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/maxcai.htm

here is where mine came from

maxitech Feb 17, 2006 01:39 PM

those are a little pricey...Get one for a 90-93 honda accord and it will do the same thing. The filter is the part that matters, buy a K&N cone to go with it.
If you want a mod that actually does something get a warpspeed y-pipe.

backNblackj30 Feb 17, 2006 03:39 PM

reuse the factory intake tube, just get a dremil and hollow it out and get rid of the raveld edges, also cut off the resonator and plug it up and seal it.
get a filter adpter for the MAF
and your set.

vision90 Feb 17, 2006 03:51 PM

ok thanx for the info i would get a y-pipe but unfortantly speed gets me in trouble so im doin an comp***ion audio car with the look and sound of an performance car im doin slight performance upgrades catback exausht, cold air intake, body kit, i have a lead foot so i constanly get speeding tickets so i dont want to give my self to much more speed to get my self in to much trouble maybe after i get better at slowing down ill get a nice y-pipe

maxitech Feb 17, 2006 04:04 PM

Keep it on the road, leadfoot...Less tickets=more money to put into the car:chebosto:

Loco7 Feb 17, 2006 11:43 PM

upgrading the y-pipe won't give you a whole lot more power but it does help the entire sound effect that you are looking for i have a CAI, HKS style foam filter (i know i need to upgrade), upgraded y-pipe, upgraded CAT, 2.5" mid pipe and a Metrix muffler and frankly it sound great, it sound like a sport car and not like some hopped up lawn mower

tripleGmax Feb 18, 2006 04:31 AM

actually the y-pipe does add the most "power" from all of the exhaust upgrades....fyi

vansskaterfreek Feb 18, 2006 05:10 AM

the y-pipe will add a nice sound to it even more i think if you had an intake too.. it only adds like 20 horsepower....its not like you are turboing the car ya know:leapfrog:

vansskaterfreek Feb 18, 2006 05:52 AM

vision90 Feb 19, 2006 11:55 AM

thanx for all the info i think i will get that y-pipe and ill slow down ill keep that lead and turn it to copper thnax guys

i guess i could have phrased my earlier post better but never claim it didn't make any difference but as far as all exhaust add ons they all claim to produce a lot of HP but has any one ever dynoed a 3rd gen max and have #'s to prove it? I not arguing that it don't help but i have trouble believing the #'s that a lot of companies claim. Some claim 20 hp some only claim 5-10 hp gain. Which ones right?

vision90 Feb 20, 2006 10:32 AM

as a mater of fact does anyone have a flex pipe sittin around that you want to get rid of i need a flex pipe i have a slight crack in mine and it's anoying or do you guys know i can get one pritty cheap

Supercross Feb 20, 2006 03:05 PM

For those of you who didn't go all out and get a CAI and just got a cone filter to put on your existing tubing...where did you get a MAF adapter? I found some on eBay like this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-94...QQcmdZViewItem). Does this look like what I need? I emailed Jeff with an item like this a while ago asking his opinion and he said according to the dimensions on the page it is too small, but that could very well be a generic picture. After all its only $9.50 total after shipping. I know Cattman sells one on their site but thats $40 and I wasn't planning on spending that for the adapter.

tripleGmax Feb 28, 2006 12:21 PM

HTPerformance Mar 5, 2006 07:56 PM

Eh... intakes are overrated without boost. Just take out your resonator if you want a little more grunt from it.

do the vg intakes have a resonator?

HTPerformance Mar 5, 2006 08:14 PM

They sure do!

Sgibb Mar 5, 2006 08:17 PM

So how do i take it off

HTPerformance Mar 5, 2006 08:21 PM

Remove the plastic pipe, you'll need something hot like a soldering iron or something, or a hacksaw to remove the big box from the pipe. Inside there is a small 1-2" hole that you can cover over with a piece of plastic from what you just removed and epoxy it on. An alternative is to just replace the pipe with some metal pipe, but this is cheaper.

Alex_V Mar 5, 2006 08:24 PM

hack off plug hole. The resonator is that strange thing connected to the plastic tubing right after the maf

EDIT-DOH! beaten by 3 minuets..

Sgibb Mar 5, 2006 08:25 PM

I already have a cone filter will this do anythign for me really?

HTPerformance Mar 5, 2006 08:27 PM

Cone filter should sound nice, but plugging off the resonator will help out more. ;)

vansskaterfreek Mar 6, 2006 03:22 PM

hey sgibb....you should just g et an aftermarket intake dude, it is like $15.. maybe $20 shipped.... ohh and do oyu still need that fog light switch???

exub Mar 6, 2006 06:20 PM

damn 3g that intake sounds sick.

Hey vans, what intake are you talking about? You mean just a filter attached to the MAF, or something like a CAI, although I doubt those will ever be $20.

for the VG motor, you can use the 1990-1993 honda accord intake on ebay, and itll work with very little cutting, if not any....they go for about $12 plus shiping

yeah i still need it i just gotta find the time to get down there

Dillbag Mar 6, 2006 07:27 PM

Are there any intakes or intake mods (resonator removal) that have any dyno numbers? I'm not asking this in a smart-a$$ way. I would just rather have a couple more HP instead of just sounding cool. And NO i haven't checked the stickies, YET.

vansskaterfreek Mar 6, 2006 07:31 PM

check your PM's sgibb
