Code 12. Can't go over 2500RPM
 

So my car died at idle, i started it back up and the check engine light came on... Checked it in the pep-boys parking lot and got a code 12. MAF is shorted or open. Ok, so I'm already at pep-boys, i get some dielectric grease, file the contacts a little bit put on some grease and head home. By the time I get home I can't get the car above 2500RPM. Now if I recall this is what happens when your MAF's not plugged in. The connection looks good, but I pull the MAF out, shoot it with some electronics cleaner, hook everything back up and try going around the block. Still can't get over 2500RPM. Is my MAF just really that f'd up? :run:

Is there anything else to try? Is there no reviving these things?

Yeah, you can get a MAF for like $25 + shipping in the classifieds these days. See if autozone will let you buy one with a no-questions asked return policy. If it cures the problem, return it after you get a used one off the Org :)

Is the MAF the same for the VE and VG? Any other Nissans use the same MAF? I'm driving from Carlisle, PA to Norfolk, VA tomorrow and I'd really like to do it at more than 55mph...

Yes, VE and VG MAFs are the same. Not sure about other cars. Any junkyards near you still open?

Well, no salvage yards open on sunday around carlisle, so I drove home to VA at a cool 55 mph. Tomorrow, I'm off to find a new MAF. Any tips on salvaging one?
