I know that the VG has a reinforced crank girdle. Does having this girdle really make it a tougher motor than other comparable 3 liter V6's? What is the highest mileage (and still running strong) you guys have ever seen a VG30E go? I know that when I sold my 85 Z31 back in '95 It had 160K on it and the motor still ran as strong as it did brand new!!! I have little doubt that with proper maintenance a VG could run well past the 300K mark with little trouble. Anyone agree?

ofcourse

VG is the best (reliability wise) engine Nissan has ever built and arguably the best engine they've every built.

Re: ofcourse

don't forget that we never got the rb2.6 or 2.8 series of engines. same basic design as the vg, but a strait six as opposed to a 60 degree v. I think the VQ series will be able to out last the vg's easily.

I've got 164,500 miles, still modding -->

Just today, I was in OD, torque converter locked up, I depressed about 35% the way down and was doing 100 in a few seconds from being at 85. These engines are awesome. I worry about my tranny though.

Ah Fro?

Nissan's inline 6 engines are totally different than Nissan's V6 engines, thus the different prefix. VG, RB. Nissan's inline 4 and early Z 6 engines were similar. ie.. L16/L18/L20B vs L24/L26/L28/L28-T. And the VQ is again a total redesign(all aluminum block, different heads etc...)

Also IMHO, the iron blocked V6 Nissan engines have much more lasting power than the V6 aluminum ones.

VG30E strong and reliable

They say VG30E lasts forever, but dont forget to replace the timing belt every 60k miles.

VQ30DEs have gone 300 to 400k miles. Are there alot of VGs out there with mileage that high?

Also, VQs are more complicated with a 4 valve head.
And, to this day, no engine has won the wards auto best engine award as many times as the VQ30 motors. It was like 8 years in a row.

Nissan pushed the VGs as hard as they could in the 300ZX TT and the Infinit J30. They had to move on.

VQs are just better.
