ABS Wheel Speed Sensor

Anybody know of a good place to pick up a front, right-hand ABS wheel sensor for a 92 SE? I've tried auto parts stores in my area, and either no one stocks it, or they want $700 for it. Haven't had much luck online either...

Thanks

Ya, I'd like to know the same, cause my ABS is out, and I believe it's from my front driver side sensor.

Junk yard....

I just got one from www.1stnissanparts.com for about $130. It's nice when the ABS doesn't spuriously activate and cause me to skid on dry pavement.

I bought mine from Courtesy Nissan few years back.

mehh.. who needs ABS... id actually rather not have it......it seems like i stopped alot faster in my non-ABS cars faster than a ABS car.... but thats just me......instead of buying new sensors, just clean them..... or clean the part of the axle where it "senses" movement......it may work.... because grease and dirt gets in there and it could mess up the sensors "sensing"

those sensors don't go bad very easily. if yours went bad, just go to a junkyard, pick up a used set. save$$$

a VE with ABS stops alot differently than a VE with disabled ABS. which is still different from a VE that never had ABS.
if your VE has ABS, fix it so it works, when the abs is disabled it has some quirky (to me) braking characteristics.
It became VERY easy to lock up (rear ended a guy because of it) also it affected handling while braking

I found one at http://www.partsamerica.com for $266.99USD. Take a short trip to Bellingham and have Schucks order one for you.

Used ABS sensors are like $10 from the boneyard. I could go though at least 10 bad ones before paying retail. Most times a front sensor goes bad because someone fails to take it off when doing struts/axles etc.. YOu have to bind the cable to get enough room (which ends up damaging it). But for the most part, used ones are a good gamble. I've done it a few times and they have worked everytime. But I'd inspect them as good as you can before buying it

that way they can tell you that the warehouse is out.
they NEVER had them. (at least not as of when I talked to the manufacturer last)
Napa and Carquest also list part #s but sadly it's all the same "manufacturer"

I was quoted $199 from Campbell/Nelson in Seattle. But with all they must order it up from San Francisco. Takes a few days.

before you spend the big money on these sensors, TRY CLEANING THEM FIRST!!!!! you never know, when i took my wheel hubs off, they were DISGUSTING!!!! and my abs never worked anyways, and that may have been the problem, but my car wasnt functional by that time....... or just run the diagnostic for the ABS.......i forget where it is, but there is some kind of diagnostic for it

Thanks everyone for all the help. I have checked the resistance across the sensor in question, and according to the FSM, it should be between 0.8-1.2K Ohms. I'm getting a reading much higher. At this point, I don't think cleaning will do anything, and according to the FSM, if the reading is not between spec, Nissan says to replace the sensor. I'm trying to find the cheapest place, so if anyone has any experience with resellers, or has one to sell, please let me know.

Thanks

when i removed my ABS sensors in my 1991 the only way i could getthem out was by beating them with a hammer......and they got messed up, so oyu might not be able to get them out of the little hole they sit in......because they are usually in there pretty well.

And with mine I just unbolted it and it pulled right out. I did clean the other end with brake cleaner before pulling it out.

Another note. The FSM says to tighten the bolt that holds it in and the hanger bolts for the cable to 15 ft-lbs. That was good for the sensor bolt, but too much for the cable bolts. One snaped off and I had to use all of my choice words to get it out of the hanger. These hanger bolts are 10mm and seem to be made of pot metal. Don't overtighten these cable hanger bolts. Just snug them up.
