For Those With BBK's....
Well now that the weather is warmer I can get to some summer projects. I just picked up a set of ZCalipers to do a BBK.....
I was looking for some input from those that have it done on there 3rd Gens, that is the best way to go in terms of Rotors and Pads. I know there is the 13" Pony Rotors and the Z rotors which is the best way to go? Also from the Blanks, Cross-Drilled , and Slotted which would you guys \ gals say to go for? And on the pads I was thinking Hawk but ill wait for everyones input before start buying. Thanks in advance , ~Charlie~ |
Personally, rotor wise I'd go for a nice set of Brembo blanks. I'm not much into the drilled/slotted fad... they don't offer enough of an "improvement" to make up for what can happen with them (i.e. cracks in the drilled, eating pads for dinner with slotted).
Pad wise, I'll wait for the others to chime in as I've not studied pads enough yet. |
i'm also with the blanks
|
Blanks seem to be a winner so far. which would be the best the 13" Mustang rotors or the 300's?
|
Matt Blehm kit, FTW!
Z calipers, his brakets & lines, and 2004+ maxima rotors (blanks). I have the kit and love it. The best part is that all the major components are oem (pads/rotors/calipers). I'm using stock 300zx pads and they work very well for street. You could also use axxis or hawk (hp-s or hp+). Def. not EBC green! I believe Matt could also recommend some good aftmkt. parts store pads. Matt?... |
I'd recommend my kit, but I don't have any brackets in stock. :(
|
i have Matts kit. awesome upgrade. i also have stock components on my braking system. im usin' the factory '06 maxima rotors, 300zx pads, Matts brake lines and brackets. my kit has worked fine since the day i installed it. of course once i put my rims back on i couldn't drive cuz the NISSAN emblem on the calipers were hittin' the inside of my rims so i had to go out and buy a set of wheel spacers as much as i hate them but what can i do? i will be gettin' new rims that way i can eliminate the wheel spacers. i will also look into switchin' over to DOT 4 brake fluid.

Hmmm no brackets in stock could be a minor problem lol... put that on the list of things to get from matt. anybody have a set lying around?

isnt there a setup that uses mustang rotors and some kind of braket with 300zx calipers? it has like a hub ring as well.?
just wondering :) |

so if you get that kit and 300zx calipers everything should work? if it clears your wheels |
I just picked up a set... I need the brackets and SS lines now... Hmmm if some are made or anybody has a set feel free to pm me , they will easily fit under my 17"s

I'm still trying to determine some of the specifics on the cheaper ones...Will the ones I need (for drums) be the same ones I will need when I convert the back to disks later on? And the ones pictured look more like front studs and not rear..."IDK if I'm right about that or not)...Check out Goon's thread about wheel stud length to see what I'm talking about.

I have the mustang rotors. There were some slight fitment issues with the rings, but nothing that couldnt be solved with some elbow grease. Also, drilled/slotted aren't too bad, I haven't had any problems with mine. I will probably go with just slotted next time though, as the holes make the rotor wear a little unevenly. They might be prone to cracking more than blanks, but I was sent these by mistake and just decided to go with em since they look pretty cool :)

Any word on relocation kits lying around?
|
New batch of brackets and rings are done. I just have to pay these guys a huge chunk of change and pick them up.
|
i think i lost my rings :) wanna hook me up :)
|
FINALLY. I got them all here and paid for. Bad news is the prices have gone up. The rings are $60 shipped and the brackets are $50 shipped. I had the machine shop put the rings on a jig and modify the design to fit the cobra rotors better. I had a few guys tell me that the rings didn't fit as well as they could have. I test fit these rings onto a spare rotor and they snap in perfect.
So brackets $50 shipped. Rings $60 shipped. Both $110 shipped. Paypal is "Jeff_Iwata@yahoo.com". Say who you are, what you are buying and where to ship it. Thanks Jeff |
You have mail Jeff.... thanks for getting us some more kits!!!!!

A little change of topic, since this thread has been a little dormant, but it is related.
What about the rear BBK? Is there a way to use Z32-rear Calipers for the rear, instead of the Z31s? What about the R32 calipers that I see on eBay? Do those work just as well (for the front and rear) as Z32s? I already have Jeff's rear relocation brackets. I just have to get the front brackets and rings and then source the best calipers and rotors I can. I am looking for the best braking force possible that will fit under 17"s. |
|
Thanks!...
