Hey guys, do you think it's worthwhile to buy an alarm, or will the stock one work for protecting my car and the expensive *** system I'm gonna put in it? Has anyone ever had anyone try to break in their car with just the regular alarm on there? I've never heard it, since I don't wanna break my window or whatever, so I'm not sure if it's any good and ****, just read about it in the manual..

the stock alarm is pretty good, it has sensors for the doors, hood and trunk
to test it, roll down the drivers side window, close the door, lock it with the key
wait 30 seconds until the SECURITY light goes off, reach inside the car and pull up the lock and open the door
the alarm should go off - flashing lights and honking
to disarm, turn key in the door; putting the key in the ignition does nothing

My car has been robbed twice in the past 6 months, such a horrible feeling. And both times my alarm didnt go off. Does anybody know why??

Hell, I wish my alarm DIDNT work...

That sucker goes off for nothing, all the time. Either my battery's power is being drained by the radio or my drivers side door is sensitive as ****.

Sometimes I find that when I slam my door really nice, It wont go off like it does. But then when it goes off for a while w/o me being able to disarm it, i'll end up needing a jump start.

Have you tried to disable your alarm?

advice

My car was broken into last year and the stock alarm worked,. This prevented the thief from stealing the stereo, but I still ended up with broken glass nonetheless.

If your factory alarm does work, my recommendation is to goto the Nissan dealer and order the factory alarm stickers (like the ones you see on the GEN 4 and UP) and stick it on your windows.

I have a feeling that whoever broke in didn't know that 3rd gens all come with factory alarms.

factory alarm

the alarm will go off from opening the door, trunk or wutever with out the key while the alarm is activated. but it will not go off from any kind of vibrations because it doesn't have a sensor for that (try kicking ur tires). the after market ones do. I'm not sure if the factory alarm got an immobilizer but most of the aftermarket ones do. An average alarm is about 180-240. I got a viper installed for 180 in nyc. I love it. It's not one of those cheap ones that goes off in the winter at anytime for no reason. It's loud and sensitive. You don't need big bucks for a good alarm, and an expensive alarm doesn't mean that it's going to be the best either. Usually, the most expensive the alarm is the louder it is, and the wider the range of the remote. But that's about it. If you are not looking for anything fancy (auto start, roll down window, pop trunk, these options will cost u more cuz the installer gotta charge u for more labor), 200 bucks should get you a decent alarm. I recommend Viper alarms. A lot of my friends have it and it's loud and sensitive, not to mention a pretty good looking remote!
Wutever you do, don't get one of those dirt cheap ones. I heard they will go off on you at anytime for no reason, especially the winter time. I've heard that they even went off while the car is in motion. Pretty embrasasing stories.
