If anyone was interested in getting a JDM VG30ET, Nippon Motors has them for $595. The JDM VG30ET has 10hp/10lb-ft more than our US VG30ET because they have the NISMO "euro" as stock cams.

So can these go in our Maximas? What is the total horsepower? Is this the route you're going to take with you car?

This is the way I want to go. For more info on VG30ET mods check out this link http://www.z31.com/nfaq/faqview.php?ParentID=7. The stock JDM VG30ET is rated at 210hp/237lb-ft vs our US 200hp/227lb-ft. Assuming the the auto drivetrain takes 40-45hp, it *should* dyno around 150-160hp to the wheels stock. With only $500 in mods, (DIY intake, 3" catback, manual boost controller) it will net around 25-40hp gain at the wheels. Don't forget JWT offers a 450hp package for the VG30ET which includes JWT ECU, 420cc injectors, Cobra MAF, larger turbo. Of course if one runs more than 9-10psi an intercooler should be added. I was gonna keep the boost around 8-9psi because to use a FMIC requires a new front bumper. Including the FMIC the cost is like $1500 minumim. Whenever I goto the track I can spike the tank with 100 octane then boost 11-13psi. BTW if you did this engine swap you can use your 3rd gen intake manifold but you will need a reprogrammed ECU. But after doing some research my ECU has the same layout as the Z31T's do. All I have to do is swap ECU's and add the detonation sensor then rewire the fuel injectors 2-5 :).

Colorado Japanese Engines has VG30ET engines with a 2 year/50,000 mile warranty i think it is for $800 something. I don't remember all the specs but it's around their and guaranteed low mileage. That's where i'm getting my VG-T when i do the swap probably this summer.

So how much would it be for

Motor and tranny( 5 speed) and you need ecu right?
You said you can use your 3rd. gen. intake manifold.(VG or VE).450 hp kit, what of you jus' got your own larger ball bearing turbo, custom 3" exhaust, Intake, and some polishing
and you could probably see around 300 hp or so right?

Now if you were doing this swap into a VE max you have to swap over the wire harness. The reason is the VE is a whole different engine. With the rareity (sp?) of the VE you might be able to swing an even trade ;) hehe. As far as 300hp all I can say is that might be overkill. Not only would the suspension and chassic be stressed but unless you use a VE tranny its way to much torque steer. Besides without $$ into the suspension you can't get good ET's.

Blu Max 10-29-2000 02:37 PM

Well suspension and chassis stiffening

is already amust have for a max. so your sayin' it might get kinda pricey to get a JDM VG-T w/ a VE tranny, would be a really nice set-up, but a stock 5- speed isn't going to handle more than say 240 hp or so. so I have a auto VE, i might as well keep and beef up to level 10 specs, and $595 for a VG-T is a good price but how's the warranty if any?
Jus' dreamin any way cuz' if i had 600 dollars to blow, it would go toward handling improvements.(need shocks bad!).

Nismo87SE 10-29-2000 03:47 PM

That engine will kill your auto...

especially if you up the boost. Your only choice is to get a heavy duty rebuild. The 5spd tranny can handle alot of power, but its the slicks and powershifting that kills it. The 5spd tranaxle is the same model from the 85-01 maxima, the only differences is the 3-5 gear ratio's and the final gear. But if you did do the engine swap you will need the wire harness and ECU, this will be a pain in the neck to do.

Maximamike 10-29-2000 05:09 PM

A VG-T powered VE trannyed Max would be like a B20 powered Civic with a JDM Type-R tranny:) I learn so much lurking on the Hybrid board:)

chris92gxe 10-29-2000 06:59 PM

Is there any way to put the turbo on a VG engine without replacing the entire engine. Can you just add the turbo.

Maximamike 10-29-2000 07:00 PM

Sure there is.

chris92gxe 10-29-2000 07:33 PM

So how much would it cost to add just a turbo. If the rest of the engine is built up there is no need for an engine swap. Is there another turbo available besides the stock vg30et. thanks

Sith 10-30-2000 05:04 AM

you would have to rip out your entire engine anyways, might as well get a low milaged used engine with some warranty and just swap it strait then spending about the same amount maybe even more to just add a turbo.

Sith 10-30-2000 07:21 AM

and another thing.
The nippon motor VG-T for 595 is not the JDM. The JDM is under the performance engines catagory and only says DOHC 160hp and doesn't specify pricing. unless you called them and they told you that but from what i know the $595 is not for JDM.

That DOHC 160HP engien is a B16A from honda. Even if its not a JDM its a good price for a low mileage engine with warrenty. BTW I have a friend that put the JDM B16A into his CRX.

Blu Max 10-30-2000 04:26 PM

I've been thinkin' about this for months.

Not really a honda fan or anything(really played out).
but for 600 bucks you can get a B16A 160hp new Si right?
I've always liked CRX's since i was 12 or so,I find that i still kinda like 'em, perfect street car/ sleeper whatever you wannna call it, it's little,I'd luv a project CRX, B16A
Vortech S/C, 16's/17's That lil mofo would haul serious arse. (fun little weekend backroad/autoX/Drag car).
Crx= cheap car to hook up,Max= expensive car too hook up.
but, looks much better.
don't get me wrong, i'm obsessed w/ my Max.
but CRX's have MAd potential. i.e. Project Racer.

vmarques82 10-30-2000 08:19 PM

what gen is this engine for?

Is this for the 3rdgens or 2nd gens?
how much is involved in swapping these?
