Antenna Mast Replacement Videos. No more Asking!!
 

Well Guys I Just replaced my antenna mast on my max. Here are 6 short videos that i took. The steps are easy. Just use a pair of needle nose pliar to remove the cover of the antenna that is attached to the fender of the car. Rotate counter clockwise. One you unscrew the cover then go to the trunk and take off the two screws and remove the wiring harness and drain tube. Thats the most difficult part. Now take the mas out behind the fender. The video will show the rest. Now once you put everything back together just reintall back in place. Hope these videos help in anyway. Mods can you Add this to the f.a.q Thanks...

Do you happen to know if the seller for your antenna is a powerseller or has more in stock?

Nice videos. That looks like a pretty easy job. Something in mine is broken. Since the motor still runs, I'll assume it's the plastic strip, and a new mast will fix it right up. I'll have to do that job soon.

OK. Having just done this job, I guess I'll tell you guys a couple things that made my life easier or harder than Crazy's.

First off, I had a hard time getting that top thing off at first, because i didn't want to scar it with pliers. I eventually said f-it and got pliers and it loosened it until it came off, and pulled the black angled rubber fitting off as well, and laid them on the car's roof, safely out of the way.

Next, after fighting the trunk wall-carpeting stuff, I got the assembly unscrewed and unhooked, but I couldn't find the disconnect right away for the audio cable. After I did, I promptly felt like a retard.

I pulled the driptube up through the rubber boot, and wiggled all the assembly out of the car, after saying more curses than I wished to count, mainly due to that audio cable.

After I got all that crap out and took it inside, I took it apart and started trying to feed the new one in after removing the old one. I found this to be difficult, mainly due to the resistance put forth by the motor. Thus, I decided to take the easy way out, and just remove the motor real quick. Easy enough.. remove 2 little screws and one larger one that just had to be loosened b/c of a support bracket. That allowed me to put the ribbed part of the mast in just until it caught, then once it caught i could go ahead and reassemble the casing and push the antenna in easily. Note, I didn't wind it up/push the antenna down until AFTER i put the black outer casing back on, because if you do, the tension of the coiled thing trying to uncoil will pop out and prevent you from putting it back together. once it was all the way in (which is necessary for reinstallation of the assembly onto the car) I put the motor back in place, which was easy b/c instead of turning the motor it just turned the gear cage a tiny bit) and took the whole thing back to my car.

Now one thing I didn't see Crazy do was replace the mast guide. Mine came with a thin metal sheath that friction-fits down into there for a more precise fit of the mast against the mast tube. I assume this to be for alignment purposes or something, but it's basically a tubular shim with a flared end and a straight end. The flared end goes up, and you can even press it in to place after the antenna assmelby is LOOSELY screwed back into the car. You can press it in from the top, then put the black rubber thing and chrome cap back on, while supporting the motor from beneath with your left hand and screwing the cap on with your right. Once that is fully tightened, go back and finish tightening the screws from inside the trunk and put the 3 connectors back on (audio, motor, motor control box). Now get on your back and reach up under the car and next to the muffler, pull the drain tube's boot out of the body. Get up and wrestle the drain tube to point back down towards the now-large hole and push it through, then get on the ground again and grab the boot off the ground, push the drain tube through it, and then go re-seat the boot into the hole you pulled it out of.

Now test your antenna. I tested mine before i had the chrome cap on so my antenna came all the way out. Oops. but as long as there is nothing actually broken off inside the motor assembly you can replace the mast on-car. I just turned the radio off and ran to the antenna and fed it in as the motor was turning, then I put the chrome cap on and tightened it, and it was fine. If all is well, put your trunk area back together, put your tools up, and recline the seat and listen to your favorite station.

Old thread but why not ask this question since I just broke my antenna... what if i just wanted to remove my antenna and use one of the little 3" antenna's from ebay? or just an antenna without a motor...

I have seen the shark fin type antenna on top, But I can only assume the fixed would work, just dont quote me on that.

The whole purpose of this vid was to fix the motorized mast.
